Giá cà phê hôm nay 23/9/2025: Tăng nhẹ trở lại

Domestic coffee prices today are about 6,000 VND/kg higher than world coffee prices. The main reason is that it is the end of the season and supply is scarce.

The erratic developments over the past year have made it difficult to predict coffee prices. Mr. Thai Nhu Hiep, Vice President of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA), said that the 2025-2026 crop year is the most unpredictable period ever due to the impact of many uncertain factors.

Fortunately, the cost of coffee production has not increased significantly this year. The price of agricultural materials has been quite stable, mainly increasing labor costs, so producers are not under too much pressure on prices.

Some agents said they have started buying early-season coffee at an estimated price of VND115,000/kg, and deposit up to 25% to secure the contract. However, the high deposit level has made many hesitant, choosing to buy and sell in small lots to enjoy a difference of about VND500/kg instead of signing a long-term contract.

At the close of trading on September 23, on the London Stock Exchange, the online price of Robusta coffee futures contract for November 2025 delivery reached 4,280 USD/ton, up 3.51% (145 USD/ton) compared to yesterday. The futures contract for January 2026 delivery increased 3.4% (139 USD/ton), to 4,228 USD/ton.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the price of Arabica coffee for delivery in December 2025 increased by 0.48% (1.75 US cents/pound) compared to yesterday, to 368.25 US cents/pound. The contract for delivery in March 2026 increased by 0.69% (2.4 US cents/pound), to 348.65 US cents/pound.

On the Brazilian exchange, the price of Arabica coffee for delivery in December 2025 decreased by 0.13% (0.6 US cents/pound) compared to yesterday, to 437.9 US cents/pound. The contract for delivery in March 2026 increased by 0.1% (0.45 US cents/pound) to 438.5 US cents/pound.

Last week, the world coffee market experienced rare strong fluctuations, surprising even seasoned traders.

According to experts, the price increase is mainly due to the decrease in supply from Brazil. Reports show that the country's coffee exports to the US in August reached only 18,000 tons, down 46% compared to the same period last year. Not only green coffee, but also the supply of instant coffee has decreased by 60%.

The main reason is believed to be the impact of the US's 50% reciprocal tax policy. This has caused Brazil to shift its exports to the European market, especially Germany, with an output of up to 25,000 tons.

The shortage of Brazilian coffee has pushed up U.S. coffee prices by an average of 21 percent year-on-year. Alternative supplies from Vietnam and Colombia have not been enough to fill the gap, causing U.S. coffee inventories to drop to low levels.
