In the early days of 2026, Cua Lo welcomed refreshing breezes, with joy following joy. The Mai Bang Temple Festival was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage (Decision No. 23, dated January 6, 2026). This is not only a tribute to a folk festival, but also affirms the cultural depth in the development journey of Cua Lo coastal city.

The joy was amplified when, at the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF 2026) held in Cebu City (Philippines) at the end of January 2026, Cua Lo was honored by ASEAN as the “ASEAN Clean Tourism City of 2026”. This title is not only a regional recognition but also an important “passport,” helping Cua Lo confidently assert its position and expand its development space on the Southeast Asian tourism map.

Cua Lo has been honored by ASEAN as a “Clean Tourism City of ASEAN in 2026”.

Visiting Cua Lo today reveals a new face: a more spacious, orderly, and vibrant urban area. Confidence is spreading among officials, Party members, and the people as the first Party Congress of Cua Lo Ward, for the 2025-2030 term, has determined: To build Cua Lo into a "green, clean, beautiful, prosperous, and civilized" coastal city.

Comrade Phung Duc Nhan - Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cua Lo Ward, said: This goal is being concretized through decisive policies and implementation from the Party Committee and the government, with the spirit of resolving obstacles wherever they arise. From systematically planning clusters of green trees, both to act as wave and wind barriers and to create a distinctive ecological landscape, to advising the province to organize the Spring Tree Planting Festival in Cua Lo in the Year of the Horse, linked with social mobilization. It is expected that more than 1,000 mature coconut trees will be planted in the early days of Spring, forming a "new row of coconut trees" for the future of coastal tourism. At the same time, the green tree system along the roads, especially the Vinh - Cua Lo Boulevard, is being completed, so that each road to the beach becomes closer to nature and more friendly to tourists.

On Cua Lo beach, the last remaining kiosks have been removed. The beach has been neatly leveled, creating a truly public space where tourists can leisurely stroll and enjoy the tranquil sea view. Urban beautification and waste management are being implemented comprehensively. Cua Lo is currently investing in the construction of five water-locking sluice gates, forming a closed-loop system to ensure absolutely no wastewater leaks into the marine environment, so that the title of "clean tourist city" becomes a sustainable and long-lasting value.

Cua Lo is also investing in urban beautification by planning and supplementing lighting systems, decorative lights, and LED signs; it is urgently preparing to build 15 modern shower facilities, each capable of serving 50-100 customers at a time; and it is building check-in points associated with upgrading destinations such as VinWonders Cua Hoi, Lan Chau Island, Hon Ngu Island, Cua Hoi ecological area, along the Cam River estuary, and along the Lam River estuary…

In particular, Cua Lo will develop Nghi Thuy fishing village into an experiential tourism destination – where tourists can join fishermen in catching and processing seafood. In this way, tourism will not just be a service, but will become a story of local life, deeply imbued with the "spirit" of the local culture.

Cua Lo is also determined to renew both its mindset and approach to tourism. The system of accommodation, travel agencies, and tourism facilities is being reviewed and reorganized. The Party Committee and government are proactively meeting with and collaborating with businesses to agree on the goal of developing year-round tourism. From summer beach tourism, Cua Lo is expanding to experiential tourism focusing on ecological landscapes and spiritual and cultural life through festivals at Mai Bang Temple, Van Loc Temple, Yen Luong Temple, Bau Loi Temple, Lang Hieu Temple; Ngu Island Pagoda, Lo Son Pagoda, etc., so that each season offers a destination, and each return brings new emotions. Cua Lo is also actively expanding its connections and attracting investment in tourism, urban development, commerce, and national and international cultural and sports events. Along with this determination comes a commitment to improving service quality, civilized behavior, transparent pricing, and saying no to price gouging, so that the trust of tourists is built on lasting success.

The decisive actions of the Party Committee and the government have created a ripple effect within the business community. Mr. Nguyen Van Vy, General Manager of VinWonders Cua Hoi, happily shared: “Cleaner beaches, more spacious coastlines, and restored urban order are very clear signals that give businesses more confidence. When the government actively gets involved, businesses are also ready to improve service quality and maintain the reputation of the destination.”

The people also clearly sense their opportunity. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, a resident of Nghi Thu 1 block, simply expressed: "With more tourists coming, staying longer, and visiting year-round, we have additional livelihoods and stable income. The people are ready to cooperate with the government in preserving the image of Cua Lo as a civilized and friendly place."

Cua Lo's tourism potential stems not only from internal efforts but also from the overall development context of the homeland and the country. With stable security and politics, Nghe An province currently has many large enterprises and industrial zones with thousands of foreign experts and workers. Vinh International Airport has recently been upgraded, the North-South expressway is operational; and projects such as the Vinh-Thanh Thuy expressway connecting to Laos, the North-South high-speed railway, and the Cua Lo deep-water port are underway. Furthermore, the Nghe An Provincial Administrative Center will be relocated eastward, closer to Cua Lo. All of this creates a wide-open connectivity space, significantly increasing the flow of tourists and investment opportunities in tourism in Cua Lo.

From this opportunity, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cua Lo Ward, Phung Duc Nhan, emphasized: Cua Lo identifies administrative reform as a breakthrough, aiming towards building an e-government, a smart city, and a digital map. Every official in the political system must be truly close to the people, serving them well, as well as businesses and investors. The people of Cua Lo must be friendly and hospitable "tourism ambassadors," so that tourists not only visit once but return many times.

When the "door to light" is opened by credibility, concrete actions, and social consensus, Cua Lo tourism not only welcomes a new beach season full of confidence but also opens a new path of development. Returning to the "race" on the tourism map of Vietnam and the region, Cua Lo today has a solid foundation built on the trust of its people, the support of businesses, the unwavering determination of the local Party committee and government, and the attention and support of Nghe An province, creating a synergistic force for sustainable development in this opportune time.
