Restart

The word Reset (English) is used in many fields, we often translate the Vietnamese meaning as "restart". This word, in the field of Mathematics and Information Technology, also has other meanings: Adjust to zero or return to the initial state. In the framework of this article, we mention the main meaning of the word Reset to talk about the need to "restart" for hundreds of thousands of workers who lost their jobs and had their working hours reduced in 2022.

According to press reports, since the beginning of 2022, many textile, footwear, electronics, and wooden furniture export factories in the southern provinces have cut hundreds of thousands of workers due to reduced orders, difficulties in finding raw materials for production, and difficult-to-export goods. In Ho Chi Minh City alone, by the end of October 2022, nearly 128,000 people had lost their jobs, an increase of 26% over the same period last year. In Binh Duong province, more than 28,000 workers had their contracts suspended, and about 240,000 workers had their working hours reduced. In some other provinces and cities, the textile, garment, and footwear manufacturing sector is also facing many difficulties due to low orders and the possibility of cutting staff.

Losing a job is something no one wants in a volatile society. It is different from the state of workers asking to quit their jobs. No worker wants to be "deprived" of their jobs by the factory or business manager. Statistics from the relevant authorities show that about 20-30% of the total number of people who have lost their jobs in the southern provinces are entitled to unemployment insurance. The majority of the rest lost their jobs before completing 12 months of work under the contract. According to regulations, they do not receive unemployment benefits from the business and are not covered by the unemployment insurance fund. That has severely affected the lives of workers. And a common image in some southern provinces is that many workers have to take buses home for Tet early from the beginning of November 2022.

Losing their jobs will cause workers to face many difficulties because they will not have enough income to cover their living expenses, while the prices of many consumer goods will increase at the end of the year. Although initially, the Labor Federation at all levels and trade unions of companies participated in negotiations with business leaders to ensure full implementation of salary and Tet bonus regimes for workers according to regulations, difficulties still piled up when they lost their jobs.

However, losing a job does not mean the door is closed to workers. Consider it a Reset, they have the opportunity to find a new job position, or can learn more social skills to find a suitable job, or can return to their hometown to exploit land funds by developing clean agriculture... Of course, in that process, workers need the active support of relatives, friends and the whole society. A noteworthy piece of information is that at the end of 2022, industrial parks in Nghe An need more than 40,000 workers. That could be an opportunity for many unemployed workers to "restart" their jobs.
