Agricultural trucks line up to go to China

From January 8, 2023, China will reopen and remove Covid-19 prevention measures inborder gatefor imported goods, helping to export Vietnamese fruits and vegetables to China more conveniently.

Currently, goods at border gates are exported on the same day, there is no longer a situation of congestion of trucks participating in import and export in the province.

Sharing with PV. VietNamNet, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien commented that China's official reopening of the border has created momentum for export recovery. Along with that, the advantages from the protocols that Vietnam has signed with China on official export have helped the export of durian, sweet potato, and passion fruit become increasingly favorable.

“Thanks to that, the prices of many types of fruit have increased significantly since the beginning of the year. This is a good sign,” he said.

Fruit prices increase sharply

Specifically, in large fruit orchards in our country, in contrast to the "cheap as free" prices a year ago, in January 2023, fruit prices fluctuated sharply.

Specifically, in Tien Giang province, mangoes increased by 10,000 VND/kg to 80,000 VND/kg for Hoa Loc mangoes and 40,000 VND/kg for Cat Chu mangoes; watermelons increased by 1,000 VND/kg, to 10,000 VND/kg; dragon fruit increased by 3,000 VND/kg, to 28,000 VND/kg for red-fleshed dragon fruit and 24,000 VND/kg for white-fleshed dragon fruit,...

These days in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, the price of red-fleshed dragon fruit has jumped to 30,000-33,000 VND/kg, white-fleshed dragon fruit is 25,000 VND/kg, 3-4 times higher than the same period last year.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Dinh Trung - Director of Thuan Tien Dragon Fruit Cooperative (Ham Thuan Bac, Binh Thuan) - informed that the price of red-fleshed dragon fruit purchased at the garden increased to nearly 40,000 VND/kg.

In the Mekong Delta, the price of Thai jackfruit has also increased sharply due to China "buying the goods". Accordingly, at the Tien Giang fruit orchard, the price of grade 1 jackfruit is 36,000 VND/kg, grade 2 jackfruit is 26,000 VND/kg, and the price of cream jackfruit ranges from 15,000-29,000 VND/kg depending on the type. At this price, jackfruit farmers in the Mekong Delta provinces who pick and sell fruit in the garden can make a profit of 4,000-26,000 VND/kg depending on the type.

Mr. Huynh Tan Loc, Director of Ngu Hiep Durian Cooperative, also said that durian in Tien Giang area is not harvested until the 15th day of the 2nd lunar month, but it is still the off-season so there is a shortage of goods and prices are at a record high.

Three days ago, Ri6 durian was purchased at the garden for 140,000-150,000 VND/kg, while monthong durian was 170,000-180,000 VND/kg depending on the type. After that, the price of durian gradually cooled down. Today (February 9), the price of durian has decreased by 10,000-15,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that China is a large market, importing 15 billion USD of fruits and vegetables each year. In 2022, our country's fruit and vegetable exports to China will be 1.53 billion USD, accounting for a small market share.

China's reopening will help fruit and vegetable exports explode in 2023. He predicts that fruit and vegetable exports to China could reach at least $2.5 billion, and could even reach $3 billion this year.
