Prosecution initiated against individual involved in the illegal trade of rare and endangered turtles.

On his way home from working in the fields, Lồng caught two turtles near his house. To get money for expenses, Lồng took the two golden turtles to Thạch Giám town to sell them.

The Investigation Police Department of Tuong Duong District (Nghe An Province) has just issued a decision to prosecute Lau Nhia Long (born in 1973), residing in Nam Can Commune, Ky Son District, Nghe An Province, for violating regulations on protection.endangered, rare, and precious animalsas stipulated in Clause 1, Article 244 of the Penal Code.

Earlier, at approximately 5:50 AM on July 14, 2024, in Hoa Dong Hamlet, Thach Giam Town, Tuong Duong District, the District Police task force, during a patrol, inspected and seized two turtles (later identified as Northern yellow-headed box turtles) from the front rack of Lau Nhia Long's motorbike.

Lầu Nhìa Lồng confessed that in early June 2024, while returning from working in the fields near his home, he caught two turtles. To get money for expenses, Lồng took the two golden turtles to Thạch Giám town to sell them. However, before he could sell them, he was inspected and arrested by the police.

The two turtles have been handed over to the Wildlife Rescue Center of Pu Mat National Park. The case is currently under further investigation and processing in accordance with the law.

Reportedly, since the beginning of the year, the Tuong Duong District Police have prosecuted 3 cases involving 3 individuals for violating regulations on the protection of endangered and rare animals.
