Busting a lottery ring worth over 50 billion VND

Specifically, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang City discovered a group of subjects in Thang Binh commune and neighboring communes who organizedgamble, gambling in the form of lottery betting on a large scale. By professional measures, the authorities caught 9 subjects in the act of organizing gambling, including: Nguyen Thi Bay (41 years old), Nguyen Thi Tam (39 years old), Nguyen Hung (60 years old), Dong Van Dung (57 years old), Dong Thi Van Nhi (23 years old), Hoang Thi Phi Anh (33 years old), Huynh Thi Phi (54 years old), Huynh Thi Hiep (54 years old) and Nguyen Cong Manh (57 years old).

In the initial investigation, the police identified Nguyen Thi Bay as the ringleader, who started organizing the sale of lottery tickets from January 2025 until now. Every day, Bay's "underlings" used mobile phones to communicate and exchange lottery tickets via Zalo and SMS messages, organizing the sale of lottery tickets to a large number of gamblers with over 30 subjects in the areas of Thang Binh, Thang Truong, and Thang Dien communes (Da Nang city).

On September 17 alone, the amount of money the subjects organized gambling amounted to more than 200 million VND; the total amount of transactions from the beginning of 2025 to now is determined to exceed 50 billion VND. The subjects confessed to all their crimes. The authorities also seized many related exhibits including 10 mobile phones, documents, and other objects.

Currently, the Criminal Police Department (Da Nang City Police) has issued an order to temporarily detain 5 subjects including: Nguyen Thi Bay, Dong Van Dung, Huynh Thi Hiep, Hoang Thi Phi Anh and Nguyen Cong Manh to investigate the acts of organizing gambling and gambling; at the same time, continue to expand the project, arrest related subjects./.
