The 1982 Convention on the Law of the Sea (hereinafter referred to as the 1982 Convention) with 320 articles and 9 appendices, was adopted in 1982 at the Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea (UN). To date, 161 countries and international organizations have signed it, including 7 countries bordering the East Sea: Vietnam, the Philippines, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei.
