When can we know who has won the US presidential election?

Today (November 5th), American voters are casting their ballots to elect the 47th President of the United States. Almost the entire world is watching this event. So when will we know who the winner of the US presidential election is? Results are sometimes announced within hours of polling stations closing. However, this year, due to the close competition between former President Donald Trump – the Republican candidate – and incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris – the Democratic candidate, we may have to wait longer for the results.
