On September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh solemnly read the Declaration of Independence, proclaiming to the Vietnamese people and the world the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. From that sacred moment, the Vietnamese nation entered a new chapter in its history. Eighty-one years have passed, but for those who lived through the historic autumn of 1945, the memory of the day the country gained independence remains vivid.
