(Baonghean.vn) - The absence of Pham Xuan Manh and the return of Phan Van Duc from the start of the second half in the match against Saigon FC in Round 1 of V.League 2020 only made SLNA play better offensively. Coach Ngo Quang Truong's team left Thong Nhat Stadium with only 1 point without scoring any goals.

In the opening minutes of the match at Thong Nhat Stadium, both teams played cautiously. SLNA's attacking moves lacked fluidity, as they faced a more experienced midfield from Saigon FC.

Launching an all-out attack, the clearest chance of the match so far belonged to the home team in the 14th minute. Striker Pedro Paulo nearly opened the scoring with a lob over goalkeeper Van Hoang, but SLNA were fortunate that the ball narrowly missed the target. In the following minutes, the SLNA defense played with great resilience and determination, constantly thwarting the opponent's attacks.

In the first 25 minutes, Saigon FC had a slight advantage in ball possession over SLNA. The game remained evenly matched, with neither team creating many significant opportunities in the final minutes of the first half. The pressing tactics of central midfielders like Dinh Chau and Van Lam forced the home team to constantly pass the ball back or resort to long balls.

By proactively disrupting their opponent's play, SLNA failed to register a single shot on target in the first 45 minutes. Strikers Peter Onyekachy and Alagie Sosseh showed little chemistry playing together for the first time, and both teams went into halftime without a goal.

In the second half, midfielder Cao Xuan Thang left the field to make way for Phan Van Duc. This was a predictable decision by coach Quang Truong, aimed at increasing the attacking threat. This forced Ho Tuan Tai to move to the right wing position.

In the 50th minute, Saigon FC was awarded a free kick. Quoc Long delivered the ball to Geovane, but his header didn't trouble goalkeeper Van Hoang. After being under pressure, it wasn't until the 55th minute that SLNA had their first shot on target, from striker Peter, but it didn't trouble goalkeeper Duc An.

After a series of energetic plays, midfielder Dinh Chau suffered an injury and had to leave the field. Quang Tinh was brought on to fill in for the midfield. Immediately after coming on, Peter and Sy Nam had a chance to shoot from Van Duc's attacking move, but unfortunately, neither player managed to get a shot off.

In the 65th minute, Saigon's goal was under threat. SLNA launched a well-executed attack. Phan Van Duc broke through, playing a one-two with Tuan Tai, but unfortunately, his delicate left-footed chip was saved by goalkeeper Duc An.

The match dragged on at a very slow pace and with low technical quality. In the 84th minute, SLNA's goal faced a dangerous counter-attack. Vu Tin broke free on the left wing, but his cross failed to find a teammate.

With only 5 minutes left in the match, striker Ho Phuc Tinh was brought on to replace Ho Tuan Tai. In the 3rd minute of added time, from an attack down the left wing by Van Ngo, the ball crossed across goalkeeper Van Hoang's goal and Dinh Dong almost put the ball into his own net. That was also the last chance of the match.

In the end, the two teams drew 0-0. With this result, SLNA is temporarily ranked 8th with only 1 point.

In the opening round of the V.League 2020, Hanoi FC temporarily leads the standings thanks to a 4-2 victory over Nam Dinh, while Ho Chi Minh City FC is in second place after defeating Quang Nam 3-1. Hai Phong and Viettel FC both secured 1-0 wins to occupy the following positions.
