Implementing telegrams from all levels, as of the afternoon of August 24, communes along Lam River with high risk of flooding proactively and synchronously deployed measures to prevent and combat storm No. 5 (Kajiki).

On the afternoon of August 24, in Lam Thanh commune (formerly Hung Nguyen district), it was raining heavily. Members of the Commune Disaster Prevention and Control - Search and Rescue Committee went to the hamlets to propagate and mobilize people to implement storm prevention and control measures. In hamlet 9, the commune militia coordinated with the people to cut and prune the branches of old trees.

The banyan tree is large in size, with a wide canopy and branches, so it is at risk of falling when the wind is strong. The commune People's Committee had to mobilize more than 20 people, including militia and local people, along with an excavator to carry out the pruning. At the same time, tall trees with many wide branches were also pruned to minimize the risk of falling.storm no. 5cause.

According to Mr. Le Khanh Quang - Vice Chairman of Lam Thanh Commune People's Committee, today (August 24), along with pruning trees, the commune has directed hamlets in the area to dredge and clear canals to prevent flooding; propagate and mobilize people to reinforce houses, place sandbags on roofs, and evacuate households in low-lying areas to safe locations.

In particular, the commune's loudspeaker system continuously broadcasts directives from all levels, updates on the situation of storm No. 5 and solutions to minimize damage. Thanks to that, storm prevention and control work was promptly deployed, especially in hamlets outside the Ta Lam dike.

Mr. Le Khanh Quang said: “Determining that storm No. 5 will make landfall in the area and bring heavy rain, the commune leaders have deployed a series of storm prevention and control solutions; ready to evacuate people from dangerous areas, especially the elderly living alone. Minimize damage to housing and power grid systems; protect agricultural production; flood low-lying areas…”.

Like Lam Thanh commune, Thien Nhan commune (formerly Nam Dan district) has actively and promptly deployed measures to respond to storm No. 5.Disaster prevention and control- The commune search and rescue team has inspected and reviewed dilapidated houses at risk of collapse to reinforce the houses, and mobilized people to cut down trees on the roads of the hamlet and in the residential areas.

At the same time, inform people about the developments of storm No. 5, strictly prohibit collecting firewood, fishing, digging for rats, crickets in rivers, ponds, lakes, dams... causing danger to life, prohibit all forms of fishing nets at dams and drainage sluices.

Mr. Nguyen Van Chinh - Chairman of Thien Nhan Commune People's Committee said: "We will closely monitor the developments of the storm and floods due to storm circulation. Organize to update fully and promptly information on natural disaster situations so that people can proactively respond to ensure safety; propagate and guide people on response measures and skills, especially strong winds, floods, landslides. Prepare human resources, materials, means, equipment to proactively deploy when incidents and situations occur according to the "4 on-site" motto. Review and prepare plans to evacuate people from dangerous areas".

Besides Lam Thanh and Thien Nhan communes, up to now, communes located along Lam River in Hung Nguyen and Nam Dan districts (old) have promptly deployed measures to respond to storm No. 5. With the efforts of local authorities and people, it is hoped that the damage caused by the storm will be limited to the lowest level.
