Storm No. 5 is forecast to move very quickly, intensify very strongly and may cause rain and strong winds to the North Central Coast, including Nghe An, starting tonight, August 24. Given this reality, many schools have postponed their plans to return to school tomorrow (August 25).

Previously, according to the school year plan approved by the Provincial People's Committee, from August 25, students across Nghe An province will start returning to school, preparing for the new school year 2025 - 2026.

However, it is forecasted that on August 25, the storm will make landfall in the area from Nghe An to Quang Tri with very strong intensity, then move deep into Central Laos, gradually weakening into a tropical depression.

From the night of August 24 to the end of August 26, it is forecasted that Nghe An province will experience heavy to very heavy rain with a common rainfall of 150 - 300mm, locally over 500mm. Warning of the risk of heavy rain (>200mm/3 hours).

Based on this reality, many schools in the province have announced to postpone the school opening date. Specifically, at Que Phong High School, to ensure absolute safety for students, the school has postponed the school opening date tomorrow morning (August 25) and will announce the specific school opening date after the storm passes and the situation stabilizes again.

In Nhon Mai commune, which was recently severely affected by storm No. 3, Nhon Mai Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities also postponed the school opening date. At the same time, the school's Board of Directors asked the Management Boards of the villages and hamlets to inform parents and students. Teacher Nguyen Ngoc Tan - Principal of the school said: Our school is located quite high up so it is quite safe to organize the school opening date for students. However, due to the characteristics of a mountainous commune, only two central hamlets are easily accessible. The remaining 10 hamlets have to go to school over hills, rivers and streams, so there are many potential risks when there is heavy rain. In the current context, ensuring student safety is the school's top priority.

In addition to mountainous districts, some schools in lowland communes have also postponed their plans to start school. Specifically, in Thanh Vinh Ward, Cua Nam 1 Primary School, Le Mao Kindergarten, and Le Mao Primary School have announced that they will not organize the school opening on August 25.

In Van An commune, Dang Chanh Ky Secondary School has announced a delay in the school opening date and will reschedule when it is safe for students.

This morning, Nguyen Duy Trinh High School, Huynh Thuc Khang High School, and the provincial Ethnic Minority High School also decided to postpone the school opening date. Some schools have planned to postpone the date to August 27.

Through discussion, Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoan - Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training said: According to the industry's plan, the school return schedule for Nghe An students will start from August 25. However, in adverse weather conditions, to ensure absolute safety for teachers, students and parents, the Department recommends that local leaders and schools adjust the school return schedule based on the actual situation.
