Selangor FC is making a bold move to recruit midfielder Hoang Hen.
To realize their goals in the regional arena, Malaysian giants Selangor FC are targeting Vietnamese national team naturalized midfielder Hoang Hen for their ASEAN foreign player slot.
The Southeast Asian transfer market is heating up with news that Selangor FC, one of Malaysia's most traditional clubs, is showing particular interest in midfielder Hoang Hen. According to sources from Palatao Bola, the club is ready to make an attractive financial offer to persuade Hanoi FC to release him in the upcoming transfer window.
The perfect link for a Southeast Asian foreign player slot.
The main reason Selangor FC is eager to acquire Hoang Hen lies in the player's legal status. After successfully obtaining Vietnamese citizenship, the midfielder born in 1994 fully meets the standards for Southeast Asian players in the Malaysian national league. According to current regulations, Malaysian clubs, in addition to the 12 main foreign player slots, also have slots for Asian and Southeast Asian players.

Selangor's continued lack of a midfield position makes Hoang Hen an ideal target. His arrival would not only fill a vacant spot but also provide a quality attacking option from the midfield, an area Selangor is looking to upgrade in order to compete for the title.
The Brazilian midfielder's explosive form
Hoang Hen's appeal stems not only from his nationality but also from his convincing performances on the field. In this V-League season, despite a late start, he has proven his superior class with 6 goals and 4 assists in just 11 appearances. His direct contribution to goals is a figure any coach would envy.
Wearing the Vietnamese national team jersey, Hoang Hen quickly asserted his influence. Most notably, he provided the assist for Xuan Son's goal in the recent victory against Malaysia. His sharp tactical vision and skillful individual technique have made him an irreplaceable link in the team's overall playing style.
Transaction value and strategic considerations
Currently, Hoang Hen is valued at approximately 325,000 euros (roughly 10 billion VND) by Transfermarkt. Although his contract with the Hanoi team is still valid until June 2028, Selangor, with its strong financial resources, could easily activate a high-profile transfer. The Malaysian team currently boasts a quality squad of national team players such as Faisal Halim and Nooa Laine and recently reached the semi-finals of the Southeast Asian Club Championship.
Interestingly, according to the schedule for May, Selangor will face Nam Dinh FC – Hoang Hen's former team – in the semi-finals of the regional tournament. If the deal is finalized soon, this would be a strategic move by the Malaysian representative to increase their firepower and morale before this important confrontation.
