The O Du people currently have only about 100 households, mainly living in Vang Mon village (Nga My commune). Few people know that they have a proud past. Their ancestors are said to be the first people to reclaim the land on both sides of the Nam Non River - the upper source of the Lam River.

Unique ceremony to welcome the first thunder of the year of the O Du ethnic group

For the O Du community in Vang Mon village, Nga My commune, Tuong Duong district, the first thunder welcoming ceremony of the year is the oldest and most sacred custom. Although no one remembers when the thunder welcoming ceremony began, it has been preserved and passed down from generation to generation, becoming an indispensable ritual in the cultural life of the O Du ethnic community, one of the five smallest ethnic groups in Vietnam.
Resettlement area for the O Du ethnic group is degraded.

(Baonghean.vn) – The O Du ethnic group is only found in Tuong Duong (Nghe An) with more than 700 people. In 2006, the O Du people moved from the reservoir area to the resettlement area in Vang Mon, Nga My commune. However, the resettlement houses are now seriously degraded, causing concern for more than 50 households.
