Reading is a beneficial habit for children's intellectual development and character formation. Books are good friends, but there are also many other friends like games and television... However, how can we instill this reading habit in children from a young age?

1. Read many stories to your children.

For many children, listening to stories and engaging essays sometimes becomes an indispensable part of their daily lives. Each story they learn helps them understand new concepts and expand their interests and areas of interest.

2. Teach children poems and songs.

As children grow older, they become familiar with rhymes, melodies, and songs. Many beautiful poems and songs still resonate in their minds even after they have grown up! Poems and songs are the best way to help children develop their memory and cultivate a love for literature! Children can sing while strolling in the park with their parents and friends, or while doing chores around the house, adding a few gestures as if they are dancing.

3. Foster interest and a love of reading in children.

Instilling a love of reading in children is not easy; it requires time and patience from parents. It's crucial to know how to ignite that interest in children. For example, if you're reading a good book or magazine, tell your child about it. When children see their parents' passion and enthusiasm, they will also be captivated.

4. Increase children's vocabulary.

Depending on the child's ability, they can hold the book and read the story aloud, or you and the child can take turns reading. Afterwards, ask the child to choose their favorite parts or any unfamiliar words. While listening to explanations, the child can also ask questions, and once their questions are answered, the new words and concepts will stay with them longer.

5. Use games to develop children's reading and writing skills.

When children go to the park, visit attractions, or travel, after these occasions, encourage them to write short essays about their feelings and lessons learned from those outings.

6. Occasionally encourage your child to repeat some words when they read a story.

For example, repeating words like "house," "mother," "father," "cat," etc., helps children recognize those words when reading other books, and then they proudly tell their friends: "I can read books now!"

7. Encourage and motivate children to write every day.

After each trip or tour, children should record their feelings and what they learned. In addition, encourage them to write a daily diary. Encourage them to write letters to family members or friends their age; children love receiving letters and will be so happy to see their name on the envelope or email!

8. Create a small bookshelf and an "ideal" space.

A dedicated reading space plays a crucial role; it should be close to a bookshelf, have a comfortable chair, and be decorated in cheerful and eye-catching colors. This appealing and comfortable space helps to awaken and nurture a child's passion for books.

9. We must set a good example for children.

If parents spend their free time reading books every day, children will imitate them, thus creating opportunities for them to develop a passion for reading. Encourage children by setting goals, and if they achieve them, offer praise or small rewards!

10. Encourage daily reading habits in children.

It's important to establish routines for children, and they will gradually develop an interest. For young children, it's advisable to buy special books (often with many pictures). Parents are the greatest teachers for children, so they often imitate their parents' daily habits. This not only helps children develop intelligence, imagination, and a rich vocabulary, but also enhances their social communication skills later in life.
