Bangkok, Thailand tops the list of most attractive tourist destinations in 2016 with an expected number of 21.4 million arrivals, beating other strong candidates such as Dubai and London.

According to the annual ranking of the multinational company Mastercard (a global technology and payment company) announced on September 22, the capital of Thailand, Bangkok, surpassed London (UK) to rank first in the list of most attractive tourist destinations in 2016. Mastercard ranked 10 cities based on a list of 132 popular tourist destinations in the world, according to Reuters.

Yuwa Hedrick-Wong, an economist at Mastercard, said that everything in Bangkok is “worth the money,” especially for visitors from high-income countries. However, some visitors also said that Thailand’s pollution makes it a less-than-ideal place to stay, despite the delicious food.

Thailand is expected to welcome a record 33 million visitors this year, thanks to a surge in Chinese tourists. Bangkok alone is expected to welcome 21.47 million international visitors in 2016.
