10 years in prison for the man who beat his relative and broke his skull
(Baonghean.vn) - Discovering someone was stealing tea leaves from his garden, Lieu used a piece of bamboo to hit the victim on the head, causing his death. At the time of the crime, Lieu was a police officer, and the victim was a relative of the defendant.
On August 17, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial against Mac Van Lieu (born 1967), residing in Yen Hop commune, Quy Hop district (Nghe An province) for the crime of murder.
According to the investigation agency's documents, at 7:00 p.m. on March 2, Mr. MVH (born in 1968), residing in Yen Hop commune, took a knife to Lieu's tea garden to steal tea. At the same time, Lieu had just returned from a drink when he discovered someone in his garden, so he ran out to see.
While running, Lieu picked up a bamboo stick more than 2.5 meters long, then crawled through the fence into the tea garden. Through the light of the flashlight above his head, Lieu saw Mr. H. cutting tea leaves and said: "H., what are you doing? How many times is this?"

When discovered, Mr. H. immediately ran away. Lieu chased after him with a piece of bamboo. After running a short distance, Mr. H. turned around and used a knife to slash at Lieu.
At this time, Lieu took a piece of bamboo and hit Mr. H. twice in the head. Then, Lieu used the bamboo to repeatedly stab Mr. H. in the chest and abdomen, causing him to fall backwards and the knife to fall to the ground. Lieu continued to use his right hand to pick up Mr. H.'s knife and hit the blade twice on Mr. H.'s right cheek. As a result, the victim was injured until about 3:00 a.m. on March 3, when he died.
At the trial, Mac Van Lieu admitted to his crime. Lieu said he was angry because he had lost his tea several times before, and that day he had a glass of alcohol in his system, so he could not control his actions.
The victim's representative attending the trial filed a petition to reduce the defendant's sentence and did not request civil compensation after receiving 60 million VND.
Considering the case as a whole, the People's Court sentenced defendant Mac Van Lieu to 10 years in prison for murder.
