Ten years in prison for man who beat a relative, causing a fractured skull.
(Baonghean.vn) - Upon discovering someone stealing tea leaves from his garden, Lieu used a bamboo stick to strike the victim on the head, causing his death. At the time of the crime, Lieu was a police officer, and the victim was a relative of the defendant.
On August 17th, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial against Mac Van Lieu (born in 1967), residing in Yen Hop commune, Quy Hop district (Nghe An province), for the crime of murder.
According to investigative documents, at 7 PM on March 2nd, Mr. MVH (born in 1968), residing in Yen Hop commune, entered Lieu's tea garden with a knife to steal tea leaves. At the same time, Lieu, who had just returned from a drink, noticed someone in his garden and ran out to investigate.
While running, Lieu picked up a bamboo pole more than 2.5 meters long, then crawled through the fence into the tea garden. By the light of his headlamp, Lieu saw Mr. H. cutting tea leaves and said, "H., what are you doing? How many times has this happened already?"

Upon being discovered, Mr. H. immediately fled. Lieu chased after him with a bamboo stick. After running a short distance, Mr. H. turned around and swung his knife at Lieu.
At this point, Lieu used a bamboo stick to hit Mr. H. twice on the head. Next, Lieu repeatedly stabbed Mr. H. in the chest and abdomen, causing him to fall backward and the knife to drop. Lieu then picked up Mr. H.'s knife with his right hand and struck Mr. H.'s right cheek twice with the blade. As a result, the victim sustained injuries and died around 3:00 AM on March 3rd.
At the trial, Mac Van Lieu admitted to the crime. Lieu testified that he was angry because he had lost tea on several previous occasions, and coupled with the fact that he had drunk alcohol that day, he was unable to control his actions.
The victim's representative, attending the trial, submitted a request for a reduced sentence for the defendant and did not seek civil compensation after receiving 60 million VND.
After considering all aspects of the case, the panel of judges sentenced the defendant Mac Van Lieu to 10 years in prison for the crime of murder.
