(Baonghean.vn) - In recent days, the impact of the tropical depression and the remnants of typhoon No. 4 has caused damage to the transportation infrastructure of several national and provincial roads in the province.

According to statistics from the Nghe An Department of Transport, over 1,000 meters of embankment along both national and provincial roads have collapsed due to landslides. Over 37 kilometers of national and provincial road surfaces have been damaged; and more than 95,000 cubic meters of mud and soil have slid down national and provincial roads.

The most severe damage occurred on National Highway 16 (Western Nghe An Road), a section over 200 km long connecting Thanh Hoa province through Tuong Duong, Ky Son, and Que Phong districts, with over 20 landslide points. Two of the most serious landslides occurred in Chau Thon commune (Que Phong district), where the embankment collapsed, occupying half the road width, with a length of over 10 meters and a depth of 6 meters. A landslide on the positive slope in Mai Son commune, Tuong Duong district, involved over 3,000 cubic meters of soil and rock. In addition, there were numerous landslides on National Highways 48, 48E, 48B, etc. The total estimated damage is over 110 billion VND.

The transportation sector is currently coordinating with local authorities to promptly address the consequences of the storms and heavy rains.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Ky, Director of the Provincial Department of Transport, said: The Department has directed traffic management units to mobilize machinery and equipment to quickly repair landslide areas to ensure traffic safety. Specifically, National Highway 16, the most severely damaged section during the recent floods, has been repaired by grafting over 45 meters of road.3Gabions. Hundreds of large and small landslides on the roads have now been repaired, ensuring traffic flow.
