116 Nghe An students received Vallet scholarships

On the afternoon of September 5, at Vinh University, the organization "Meeting Vietnam" presentedVallet Scholarshipfor excellent students of Nghe An province in 2023.

Attending the ceremony were Professor Odon Vallet-Director of the Vallet Scholarship Fund, Mr. Patrick Aurenche, Vice President of the Rencontres du Vietnam Association and members of the scientific organization "Rencontres du Vietnam" and the Vallet Scholarship Fund.
Also attending were Mr. Vo Van Mai - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, Nguyen Ba Tien - Vice Principal of Vinh University, Cao Danh Chinh - Vice Principal of Vinh Technical Pedagogical School, leaders of schools whose students received scholarships, and related departments and branches.
The Vallet Scholarship was initiated in Vietnam in 1994 with the initial scholarships from the "Meeting Vietnam" fund awarded to graduate students.
Since 1997, the scholarship has continued to be awarded to outstanding students of talented undergraduate classes at Hanoi National University. Starting from 2001 to the present, the 23rd year, the scholarship is awarded under the name “Vallet Scholarship” sponsored by Professor Odon Vallet, within the framework of the “Meeting Vietnam” Association program.

During the scholarship awarding ceremony, Professor Odon Vallet also gave a speech sharing the significance of the Vallet scholarship. Since its implementation, the number of scholarships awarded in Vietnam has increased: from 800 in 2001 to 2,000 in 2023; The value of the scholarships has also increased year by year, each year higher than the previous year: from 2.7 million VND per scholarship for students and 4.2 million VND per scholarship for students, now each scholarship for students is 14 million VND and for students is 28 million VND.

Professor Odon Vallet also expressed his affection for Vietnam - a country with many glorious and heroic victories. He is proud to have many close friends in Vietnam, such as General Vo Nguyen Giap.
From these precious feelings, Professor Odon Vallet expressed his joy at being awarded the Vallet Scholarship and over the years of implementation, many students receiving the scholarship have received many high prizes at regional and international Olympic competitions - the most among all countries where the scholarship has been implemented. The success of the students is also the success of the Vallet Scholarship Fund and of those who implement it.

Previously, with the aim of supporting excellent students to have better conditions for studying and doing scientific research, with tireless efforts to build a modern scientific community in Vietnam, Professor Tran Thanh Van founded the Vallet Scholarship Fund. And Professor Odon Vallet was the one who contributed to making Professor Tran Thanh Van's dream come true.
Over the past two decades, scholarships have been awarded to more than 50,000 excellent Vietnamese students with a value of nearly 500 billion VND. Nearly 400 of them won medals in international and regional Olympiads in Natural Sciences and were admitted to prestigious universities around the world.

In 2023 alone, scholarships will be awarded to 2,000 students and young researchers nationwide with a total value of over VND36 billion. Of these, 116 students will come from Nghe An with a total value of over VND1.9 billion.
These are students with many high achievements in studying, winning many high prizes at regional and international Olympic competitions, national excellent students, provincial excellent students, students with high scores in high school graduation exams, and excellent students at universities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training Vo Van Mai sincerely thanked Professor Odon Vallet, Professor Tran Thanh Van; and the scientific organization "Meeting Vietnam" for their affection for students of Nghe An over the years. This is not only a valuable material gift, helping and creating conditions for them to continue on the path of studying and scientific research, but also shows their heart, affection, solidarity and friendship. This also shows the special trust and deep friendship that the professors and the Scientific and Educational Organization "Meeting Vietnam" and the Vallet Scholarship Fund have for students of Nghe An - the homeland of beloved Uncle Ho, a land with a tradition of studiousness, ready to dedicate their talents and intelligence to the development of their homeland, country and social progress.

The scholarship has also given young people in Nghe An meaningful lessons about the desire to contribute and responsibility to their homeland and the community from true scientists.
Professor Odon Vallet is a Doctor of Science in Law, Professor of Religious History at Sorbonne University, Paris. Professor Odon Vallet lives a life of science and quietly fulfills the wishes of his revered father. He and his brother Jean-Daniel founded the “Vallet Foundation” in 1999 and donated a large part of his father’s inheritance to this organization, giving scholarships to excellent young people studying in France, Benin (West Africa) and Vietnam.
Professor Tran Thanh Van was born in 1936, from Quang Binh, living in France. He is a famous physicist, honored in many countries: France, Russia, America, Vietnam...
Every year, Professor Odon Vallet and Professor Tran Thanh Van return from France and have persistently traveled all over Vietnam, personally awarding valuable scholarships to intelligent, studious young people, contributing to nurturing Vietnamese talent.
