On January 29, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened the first-instance trial of defendant Le Minh Dung (34 years old), residing in Dong Tien commune (Thanh Hoa province), on the charge of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".

Le Minh Dung went to Cambodia to work at a casino. From November 2023 to January 2024, driven by greed, Dung worked as a manager and translator at a fraudulent company owned by a Taiwanese man named A Sieu (headquartered in Bavet town, Svay Rieng province, Cambodia).

This company specializes in online fraud, impersonating Vietnamese state agencies to manipulate victims' psychology and seize their assets.

At this company, Dung's role was to assist with management and act as an interpreter. Every day, Dung would come to the company for a few hours to check on employee activities, record the situation, and report to the boss when problems arose. The rest of the time, Dung worked at the casino. He received a monthly salary of $1,000.

Although he did not directly contact or commit the fraud, Dung was fully aware of the criminal nature of the company and actively assisted A Sieu and his accomplices in defrauding the victim Vu Thi D. (residing in Khanh Hoa) of over 3.5 billion VND. The total amount of illicit profit Dung obtained was over 73 million VND.

At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime. The defendant also stated that, after being arrested, he had his family compensate the victim with nearly 300 million VND.

In this case, for the crime of fraud and misappropriation of property, defendant Le Minh Dung was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Nghe An Provincial Court.

Previously, in July 2025, Dung was sentenced to 10 months in prison by the Svay Rieng Provincial Court in Cambodia for the crime of "conspiring to illegally possess weapons."
