2.5 trillion VND to build a sluice gate to prevent saltwater intrusion and preserve freshwater in the Lam River.

(Baonghean.vn) – The saltwater intrusion prevention and freshwater retention sluice gates on the Lam River must be both durable and aesthetically pleasing to attract tourists.

The project to build a system of sluice gates to prevent saltwater intrusion, retain freshwater, and improve the environment on the Lam River was constructed to proactively cope with saltwater intrusion caused by climate change and rising sea levels, ensuring proactive prevention of saltwater intrusion and the provision of freshwater for cultivation on over 40,000 hectares of agricultural land.

This system will also supply water for domestic and industrial use to the Southeast Economic Zone, Nghi Loc district, Vinh City of Nghe An province and Nghi Xuan and Can Loc districts of Ha Tinh province.

At the same time, the completed project will contribute to ensuring smooth traffic flow between the two banks of the Lam River; contribute to improving the water environment, and create conditions for economic development in the surrounding areas.

The total investment for the project is expected to be 2,500 billion VND, funded by a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the local budget, and other sources.

During the meeting, representatives from the Vietnam Institute of Water Resources Science and the Institute of Water Resources Planning presented two options for the project's route, scale, technological solutions, and technical design. The relevant units provided numerous suggestions regarding the technological solutions and technical design of the project.

Also at the meeting, representatives from Thanh Thanh Dat Co., Ltd. consulted with scientists about the impact of this project on the Huong Thanh urban and eco-tourism area, covering 300 hectares on the sandbank in Xuan Giang commune, Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh province.

Concluding the working session, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dinh Viet Hong stated: This multi-purpose project is a key national project with a very important role in combating climate change. Upon completion, the project will help regions proactively manage irrigation, increase crop yields, and contribute to the economic development of the Southern Nghe An and Northern Ha Tinh regions. He requested that the project's design consultant, in addition to ensuring technical specifications, also pay attention to the aesthetic aspects of the project to attract tourists.

The Provincial People's Committee requests Thanh Thanh Dat Co., Ltd. to promptly provide detailed information about the project; assigns the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to coordinate with relevant units to complete the project adjustments and advise the Provincial People's Committee on allocating funds for the design consulting unit; the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development needs to actively mobilize and attract capital to expedite the project implementation.
