The elections for the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term in the islands of the Truong Sa Special Zone, Khanh Hoa province, were held early on March 8th. Truong Sa Island held its election on March 15th, along with the rest of the country.

Despite being hundreds of nautical miles from the mainland, officers, soldiers, and people in the Truong Sa Special Zone fully exercise their rights and fulfill their civic duties, contributing to affirming national sovereignty over the Truong Sa archipelago.

To prepare for the election, the People's Committee of the Truong Sa Special Administrative Region established 6 election committees with 54 members, 21 polling stations with 189 members, and also organized subcommittees to assist in propaganda, ensuring facilities, handling complaints and denunciations, security and order, and health.

In his opening remarks at the election, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huy Tuong, Commander of Sinh Ton Island and head of polling station No. 7 in the Truong Sa Special Zone, emphasized that the election of National Assembly and People's Council representatives at all levels for the 2026-2031 term is a significant political event for the entire Party, the entire people, and the entire army.

This is also a widespread democratic activity aimed at promoting the people's right to self-governance; it is a festival for the entire nation, a day when each voter, through their ballot, will choose outstanding representatives to represent the legitimate will and aspirations of the people.

To implement the early election task on the islands, the Special Administrative Region Election Committee, in coordination with the 4th Naval Region, organized two ships sailing in two directions to the Truong Sa archipelago, transporting ballot boxes and election supplies to each island, ensuring that all polling stations were fully equipped.

Holding early elections is not only aimed at ensuring the overall progress of the country but is also a practical requirement consistent with the working conditions and combat readiness of the forces tasked with protecting maritime sovereignty and islands.
