21.8 billion VND was deposited by the families of inmates at Prison No. 3.

(Baonghean.vn) - Over 21.8 billion VND has been deposited by the families of prisoners, including 12.5 billion VND deposited through visits and 9.3 billion VND deposited via post office.

On the morning of May 24th, the 9th Conference of Family Representatives of Prisoners was held at Sub- trại No. 2, Prison No. 3 (General Department VIII - Ministry of Public Security).

Also attending the conference were representatives from the People's Procuracy, the Nghe An Provincial Library, the Nghe An Provincial Youth Union, and more than 200 relatives of inmates' families from all over the country.

The Supervisory Board of Prison No. 3 reported on the results of its work in educating and implementing policies for inmates; organizing labor and vocational training; building a rehabilitation environment; and the results of coordination between Prison No. 3 and social organizations and families in managing and educating inmates.

Accordingly, from 2010 to the present, five literacy classes have been opened for nearly 200 inmates. In 2016 and the first six months of 2017, 10,294 inmates were allowed to meet with their relatives. During the same period, 16,371 inmates received gifts, including 6,327 packages sent via post and 10,044 packages received through visits.

To facilitate the convenient and quick transfer of funds by inmates' relatives and families for purchasing goods at the canteen, over 21.8 billion VND has been deposited by inmates' families, including 12.5 billion VND deposited through visits and 9.3 billion VND deposited via post office.

At the conference, relatives of the inmates were given a tour of the living quarters, work areas, daily routines, and recreational facilities of the prisoners. Currently, at Prison No. 3, each inmate cell is equipped with a 29-inch television, and every 30 inmates receive one copy of the Nhan Dan newspaper daily.

Each detention area is equipped with a sepak takraw court and a table tennis table for inmates to play and relax on holidays and days off. Bookshelves are installed in each cell to help inmates improve their awareness and understanding of the law.

In 2016, Prison No. 3 had 1,234 inmates whose sentences were reduced, and 34 inmates were granted early release through amnesty. In the first six months of this year, an additional 685 inmates received sentence reductions. It has been noted that the majority of inmates granted amnesty or released early have returned to their localities to engage in honest work, contributing to the development of their families and society.

According to the Q1/2017 classification results, Prison No. 3 had 400 inmates classified as good (18.5%); 1,420 inmates classified as fair (64.7%); 267 inmates classified as average (12.3%); and 97 inmates classified as poor (4.5%).

Thanks to their good rehabilitation records, in 2016 and the first six months of 2017, 101 groups and 584 individuals of inmates were commended and rewarded by the prison management board, including 8 inmates who received extraordinary awards.

At the conference, the Nghe An Provincial Youth Union Committee presented 10 gifts to young inmates with particularly difficult circumstances, and the Nghe An Provincial Library donated 120 books of various kinds to Prison No. 3.
