(Baonghean.vn) - As of now, 23 teams worldwide have qualified for the 2018 World Cup finals.

Europe

There were 10 teams participating in the 2018 World Cup finals, as well as 8 teams competing in the play-offs.

The French national team secured first place in Group A.

Following the matches played early this morning, the group stages of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers in the European region have officially concluded. Nine teams that finished first in their groups, along with host nation Russia, have qualified for the finals: France (Group A), Portugal (Group B), Germany (Group C), Serbia (Group D), Poland (Group E), England (Group F), Spain (Group G), Belgium (Group H), and Iceland (Group I).

The list of 8 teams participating in the play-off round includes: Sweden (Group A), Switzerland (Group B), Northern Ireland (Group C), Republic of Ireland (Group D), Denmark (Group E), Italy (Group G), Greece (Group H) and Croatia (Group I).

On October 17th, the European Football Association (UEFA) will conduct the draw for the 2018 World Cup play-off round. The four teams ranked higher in the FIFA rankings (published on October 16th) will be placed in Group 1, and the four lower-ranked teams in Group 2. Teams from the same group will not face each other.

The first leg of the 2018 World Cup play-offs in the European region took place from November 9-11, and the second leg from November 12-14.

South America, CONCACAF

This morning, the final round of World Cup 2018 qualifiers for the South American and CONCACAF regions took place. Following these matches, the list of teams that have qualified for the finals and the play-offs of the 2018 World Cup has been determined.

In South America:Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and Colombia secured their tickets to Russia in the summer of 2018. A surprise was the elimination of the reigning Copa America champions, Chile.

Uruguay is one of the four South American teams that qualified for the World Cup in Russia.

Meanwhile, Peru finished fifth and had to play a play-off match against the Oceania team, New Zealand, to compete for a ticket to the 2018 World Cup finals. The first leg took place in New Zealand on November 6th, and the second leg on November 14th.

North Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF) region:Mexico, Costa Rica, and Panama qualified for the 2018 World Cup finals. Notably, the US national team had to watch the tournament on TV.

Honduras finished 4th and had to play a play-off match against Australia, a representative from Asia. The first leg took place in Honduras on November 6th, and the second leg in Australia on November 14th.

Asia

Four Asian teams have qualified for the tournament in Russia: Iran, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea.

Africa

At this point, only two African teams have been confirmed to advance: Nigeria and Egypt.
