On February 1, a military coup took place in Myanmar, transferring power to the Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. President Win Myint and State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi were arrested. This move came after days of escalating tensions between the government and the military, which did not recognize the results of the November election in the country. The coup organizers declared a state of emergency in Myanmar for a period of 1 year.
