27 people died in the hostage rescue operation in Mali.

(Baonghean.vn) - After hours of effort to rescue hostages kidnapped from the Radisson Blu hotel in the capital Bamako, Malian police and foreign troops rescued more than 150 people from a terrorist group. However, the number of casualties after the rescue is quite heavy and could reach 27 people.

There are still no official figures on the number of casualties following the attack and hostage-taking at the Radisson Blu hotel. News outlets have reported varying numbers, ranging from 18 to 27 fatalities, including both tourists and hotel staff.

According to AFP, citing a military source, more than three terrorists "were killed or killed in suicide bombings" during the hostage rescue operation.

Malian authorities have not yet revealed the nationalities of the victims. As of now, Belgium has confirmed that a high-ranking official from the French-speaking community in Belgium was killed in the attack.

Reportedly, in addition to Malian nationals, at least 14 other tourists were among the 140 arrested at the Radisson hotel, including citizens from France, the United States, Belgium, Germany, India, China, Türkiye, and Algeria.

Regarding the perpetrators of the hostage-taking attack, the Al-Nourabitoune jihadist group – a terrorist group linked to Al-Qaeda – claimed responsibility for the attack on Twitter. Authorities are currently verifying this information.

During the hostage rescue operation in Mali, the Mail's security forces received assistance from the French army, US special forces, and the United Nations' Minusma force.
