3 home remedies for heatstroke using basil.
Heatstroke is very common in the summer. There are many remedies used to treat heatstroke, among which basil (Ocimum basilicum) stands out.
1. Characteristics of basil
In Vietnam, there are two types of basil: white and purple. The purple type is more commonly used.
Purple basil is often grown for medicinal purposes around homes. White basil grows wild in many places throughout Vietnam, most abundantly in the provinces of Quang Ninh, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Hai Duong, and Hung Yen.
Basil contains many aromatic essential oil alkaloids.
According to traditional Chinese medicine, basil (Ocimum basilicum) has a pungent taste, is slightly warm in nature, and acts on the lung and stomach meridians; it has the effect of inducing sweating, treating colds, reducing fever, and promoting diuresis; it is used to treat colds, headaches, abdominal pain, vomiting, edema, diarrhea, and nosebleeds.
The daily dose is 3-8g. It is not suitable for people with yin deficiency and qi deficiency.

2. A remedy containing basil for heatstroke.
Dr. Nguyen Quang Duong, Head of the Oncology Department at Tue Tinh Hospital, introduces some remedies for heatstroke using basil (Ocimum basilicum):
Lesson 1:8g of basil, 8g of magnolia bark, 12g of white kidney beans. Decoction to be drunk throughout the day, when cool.
EffectsUsed for people suffering from common colds caused by exposure to cold air (such as from going out in the summer or drinking too much cold water) resulting in fever, chills, headache, chest tightness, and dry sweating.
Lesson 2:12g of basil, 12g of kudzu root, 12g of Houttuynia cordata, 12g of measles venom, 8g of mint, 4g of Saussurea costus, 4g of fresh ginger. Decoction for oral administration. One dose per day, divided into two servings.
Effects:Treating summer colds with symptoms such as: headache, chills, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, palpitations, thirst, and yellowish-red urine.

Lesson 3:12g of basil, 9g of perilla (leaves and stems), 9g of quince, decocted in water and drunk throughout the day.
Effects:It treats heatstroke, vomiting, diarrhea, or symptoms caused by eating too many raw or cold foods in the summer.
Note: The decoction of basil should be drunk cold; drinking it hot may cause nausea. In addition, patients need to drink plenty of water and electrolytes to prevent fluid loss and electrolyte imbalances that can lead to prolonged fatigue. Steam inhalation of any kind is not permitted.
