(Baonghean.vn) - Using extremely sophisticated and audacious methods, taking advantage of people's carelessness, this gang used lock-picking tools to commit 5 motorbike thefts in Ha Tinh and Nghe An provinces in just 3 consecutive days.

At approximately 11:45 PM on August 4th, an armed patrol team from the Mobile Police Company (PK20) of the Nghe An Provincial Police Department was on patrol on Nguyen Phong Sac Street in Hung Dung Ward (Vinh City) when they spotted two young men riding an Exciter motorbike without license plates, exhibiting suspicious behavior. The patrol team immediately requested the driver to stop for an administrative check. However, the two individuals not only refused to comply but also abandoned their motorbike and fled into the residential area. The team pursued them, and after fleeing about 200 meters, they were apprehended. The team requested the two individuals to present their personal identification and vehicle documents, but they had none.

Initially, the suspects identified themselves as Phan Van Duong and Luong Xuan Quyet. They stated that the Exciter motorbike was stolen by Quyet and Le Dinh Chien at 54B Phan Dang Luu Street, Truong Thi Ward (Vinh City) at approximately 9 PM that same day. They were apprehended by the riot police while on their way to sell it. According to their confession, Chien was also using a Sirius motorbike that he had stolen from an internet cafe in Hong Linh Town (Ha Tinh Province) on the evening of August 3rd.

Based on this testimony, the task force conducted a swift investigation and pursuit to quickly apprehend Le Dinh Chien and seize the evidence before it could be sold. Through surveillance and stakeout at the suspects' rented accommodation in Hung Loc commune, at approximately 0:30 AM on August 4th, as Chien was returning to his rented room on a Sirius motorbike, before he could even dismount, the task force quickly swooped in, subdued and arrested him, confiscated the evidence, and escorted him and the seized items to the Mobile Police Department headquarters for further investigation.

At the police station, suspect Le Dinh Chien confessed to all his crimes. Chien further stated that, using similar methods and tactics, at around 5 PM on August 4th, all three suspects also committed a motorcycle theft in Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province. The stolen motorcycle is currently being kept at the rented room of a fellow villager residing in Vinh City, and they have not yet had time to sell it.

Notably, when they used a crowbar to break the lock on a motorbike belonging to a farmer, they were discovered. People shouted and chased after them, but the suspects sped away on their motorbike, crashing into people to escape. That same evening, these individuals went out again to look for victims but were discovered and apprehended.

Based on the suspects' confessions, on the night of August 4th, the Mobile Police Company confiscated the Exciter motorcycle, which was evidence in the case. Verification of the frame and engine numbers confirmed it belonged to Ms. Cao Thi Tho Tam (born in 1994), residing in Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province, and was stolen by two suspects on the afternoon of August 4th. Further investigation revealed that using similar methods, between August 2nd and 4th, the suspects committed two more motorcycle thefts in Nam Dan district, selling the stolen motorcycles to the same individual in Huong Son district (Ha Tinh province) for 9.5 million VND, which they then divided among themselves. Before handing over the suspects and all evidence to the Vinh City Police for further investigation, the Mobile Police Company seized three motorcycles, two mobile phones, 6 million VND in cash, and two motorcycle license plates from the suspects' rented room.

According to initial confessions, the three suspects stated that they met while working for a fire safety equipment company located in Hung Loc commune (Vinh City) and shared a rented room. Due to their unstable work, when they were unemployed, the three would travel throughout Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, observing for opportunities to steal. They assigned specific tasks; Duong was responsible for manufacturing lock-picking tools and acting as a lookout while the other two used the tools to break car locks and steal vehicles for resale.

On August 9th, Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Minh Nghiem, Commander of the Mobile Police Company (PK20 Department) of the Nghe An Provincial Police, stated that the unit had completed the case file and transferred it to the Vinh City Police for further investigation into the theft case involving: Phan Van Duong (born in 1998), residing in Hamlet 2, Nghia Phuc Commune, Tan Ky District; Luong Xuan Quyet (born in 1992), residing in Hamlet 3, Son Linh Commune, Huong Son District (Ha Tinh Province); and Le Dinh Chien (born in 1995), residing in Hamlet 6, Bac Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District.
