3 habits that will make you "collapse" at the drinking table.

The tradition of "drinking wine at the beginning of spring" has become a habit and part of Vietnamese culture. Moreover, among young people, this tradition has been distorted during gatherings with friends and class reunions at the end of the year and the beginning of the new year. Many people have collapsed after these drinking sessions due to severe intoxication, stemming from the following three habits.

Don't drink alcohol on an empty stomach.

"Many people have a habit of drinking and eating very little when they sit down for a meal. This is a dangerous mistake for their health. Unfortunately, it is extremely common among young people who drink and forget to eat," warned Dr. Nguyen Trung Nguyen from the Poison Control Center (Bach Mai Hospital).

Leaving aside the risks of counterfeit or methanol-laced liquor, even genuine liquor poses many dangers to drinkers if consumed in large quantities. At this point, the drinker will become intoxicated, their nervous system stimulated, causing them to babble, vomit, and talk excessively. Meanwhile, it's impossible to force them to eat or drink because they can only manage one or two sips of lemonade or herbal tea before collapsing and falling asleep.

Meanwhile, going to sleep while intoxicated and hungry increases the risk of hypoglycemia, which can easily lead to death or brain damage.

Advice:Eat a full meal before, during, and immediately after drinking, especially starchy foods (rice, noodles, etc.) or foods high in sugar, as this will help "coat the intestines" and reduce the risk associated with alcohol.

Cheers, cheers, cheers… continuously

In Vietnam, to avoid the harmful effects of alcohol on the body, men should not drink more than 20 grams per day, and women should not drink more than 10 grams per day. Accordingly, women should not drink more than 250ml of 5% beer or 30ml of 39.9% spirits; men should not drink more than 500ml of 5% beer or 60ml of 39.9% spirits.

But in reality, once these "party animals" sit down at the table, they've already had 5-6 drinks as soon as they start eating. Then there are all sorts of reasons to drink alone, drink together, drink as a witness...

The rapid drinking means that the alcohol enters the body but doesn't immediately cause intoxication. However, about 30 minutes later, many people who were previously sober, laughing and shouting "cheers, cheers, cheers!" suddenly become unsteady, have headaches, feel dizzy, and can't walk properly...

According to Dr. Nguyen, it's difficult to adhere to the recommended dosage during social gatherings. However, try drinking calmly, slowly, spacing out your toasts, and eating while drinking to reduce the risk of getting drunk quickly.

It's also important to note that once you start drinking alcohol, it's very easy to quickly lose control and go from "drinking a little" to "drinking a lot." Therefore, if you feel intoxicated or unsteady, you should stop to minimize health risks. Being drunk isn't just about the harmful effects of alcohol; the inability to control your behavior can lead to fights, driving accidents, and other serious problems.

Drinking a hodgepodge of all kinds of wine and beer.

During a drinking session, doctors recommend drinking only one type of beverage to help control your overall alcohol intake.

Don't drink hard liquor, wine, and beer all at once. A little bit of each, if not controlled, will result in a large amount of alcohol entering your body, and you'll get drunk much faster.
