30 months in prison for man who stabbed multiple fellow billiard players.

(Baonghean.vn) - On March 22, the People's Court of Tan Ky district tried three cases of gambling and intentional infliction of injury.

Accordingly, at 6 PM on October 13, 2016, after a drinking party at Mr. Thu's house in Hung Son hamlet, Phu Son commune, Tan Ky district, Nguyen Viet Tuan (born in 1993) went to Mr. Tinh's shop in Bac Son hamlet, in the same commune, to play billiards.

Here, after an argument, Tuan got into a conflict with a group of billiard players including Nguyen Van Nhan, Ho Sy Su, Ho Sy Bang, Vo Hong Nhu, and Dang Van Chuong, all of whom lived in the same commune as Tuan.

At around 9 PM, Tuan hit Bang with a billiard cue, breaking it in half. The broken handle flew off and hit Tuan in the face, causing him to bleed.

Tuan pulled out a knife, scaring Bang, who ran out into the street. When Ho Sy Su tried to intervene, Tuan slashed him in the face and left hand, and also attacked Pham Van Khoa, but Khoa managed to escape.

Tuan then slashed Nguyen Van Nhan, hitting him in the left arm.After the victims fled, Tuan, still clutching the knife, aggressively rode his motorbike in search of Su. People quickly took the victims to the commune's health station for first aid and then transferred them to a higher-level medical facility for treatment.

On October 20, 2016, Ho Sy Su and Nguyen Van Nhan submitted a request to the Criminal Investigation Department of Tan Ky District Police for assessment of injury rates and for the initiation of criminal proceedings.

The forensic examination report No. 281, 282/TTPY dated October 21, 2016, from the Forensic Center of Nghe An province concluded that the health damage caused by the injuries inflicted by Tuan on Su was 14% and on Nhan was 11%.

At the investigative agency, Tuan confessed to all his criminal acts, which were consistent with the evidence and documents collected in the case file. Tuan's actions constituted the crime of intentionally causing injury as stipulated in Clause 2, Article 104 of the Penal Code.

Tuan compensated Mr. Su with 37,620,000 VND and Mr. Nhan with 21,400,000 VND.

The court sentenced Nguyen Viet Tuan to 30 months of imprisonment, suspended for 5 years.

* The People's Court of Tan Ky District tried two more cases of gambling offenses in Dien Nam hamlet, Ky Tan commune, catching six individuals red-handed organizing gambling with 1,050,000 VND used for gambling. Among them, Nguyen Thanh Tuan (born in 1968) was an individual with a prior conviction for gambling, having been sentenced by the People's Court of Tan Ky District to 15 months of non-custodial correctional imprisonment, but as of December 8, 2016, Tuan's criminal record had not yet been expunged.

A gambling raid in Tan Thanh hamlet, Nghia Thai commune, resulted in the arrest of 15 individuals, including Pham Anh Hieu (born in 1981), who had two previous convictions for gambling. The Tan Ky District People's Court sentenced him to a combined 20-month prison term. Hieu completed his sentence on April 29, 2014, but his criminal record has not yet been expunged.

In accordance with Clause 1, Article 248 of the Penal Code, the Trial Panel sentenced Nguyen Thanh Tuan and Pham Anh Hieu each to 4 months of imprisonment.

As for the individuals who participated in the gambling but did not meet the elements constituting a crime to be prosecuted criminally, the Tan Ky District Police issued administrative penalties instead.
