4 steps to renew your driver's license online

According to the Vietnam Road Administration, the procedure for renewing a driver's license applies when the driver meets all the conditions. These conditions include: the driver's license must be issued by the Ministry of Transport; the license must be in the driver's license information system and the list of issued driver's licenses (management register); currently, driver's licenses are not subject to temporary suspension or revocation; and the driver must possess an electronic health certificate from medical facilities such as E Hospital, Transport Hospital, etc.

The documents required for renewing a driver's license include: driver's license, citizen identification card/national identity card, and a health certificate (for driving motorized vehicles).

The agency responsible for handling this procedure is the Department of Transport of provinces and centrally-administered cities, or the Vietnam Road Administration.

Currently, online driver's license renewal is a public service with two levels. Level 3 public service for driver's license renewal applies to individuals holding a driver's license managed by the Ministry of Transport, which is still valid or has expired for less than 3 months.

Level 4 public service for issuing International Driving Permits applies to Vietnamese citizens, foreigners with permanent residence cards in Vietnam, and those holding a valid Vietnamese national driving license made of PET material.

The procedure for renewing a driver's license (level 3) is carried out in 4 steps.

Step 1: Access the website of the Vietnam Road Administration: https://dichvucong.gplx.gov.vn/faces/registration/home.xhtml

Step 2: Proceed to select the information for online registration, specifically as follows:

Administrative procedure: Select the administrative procedure (select level 3).

Resolving agency: Choose the Department of Transport for the most convenient resolution or the Vietnam Road Administration.

This is the registration location. This is where you will go to complete the procedures for renewing your driver's license. Then, click register online to continue.

Step 3: Here, enter your driver's license number, including both the numbers and letters. Press search, and your information will appear.

Scroll down, and you'll find the option to add another driver's license number. Choose this option if you wish to add another number; otherwise, skip it.

In the section for requested changes, please enter the information if you have any changes to your Citizen Identity Card/National Identity Card or place of residence. Otherwise, you can skip this section.

The document section includes three types of documents, which are the papers you need to bring when applying for a driver's license renewal.

You can take screenshots and insert them into your Word file before uploading it. If you upload a different file, it must be in the specified format: doc, docx, xls, xlsx, pdf, png, jpg, jpeg, gif, and the file size must not exceed 5MB.

Finally, regarding the registration processing time, you choose the time when you can come to the office to renew your driver's license. Then select a time; if the system indicates that the maximum number of applications for that time has been reached, you must choose a different registration date.

Step 4: After successfully submitting your application, you will receive a verification notification. Check your registered email address to retrieve the verification code.

However, this confirmation email does not mean your appointment has been accepted. Two to three days before the application processing date (appointment date), the officer will review your application. You will then receive a confirmation email if your application is valid, or a rejection email (with reasons) if your application is invalid.
