4 types of autumn fruits that fight cancer

These four autumn fruits all offer numerous health benefits, and may even help prevent or treat cancer.

Apple

Apples are the quintessential autumn fruit. Packed with fiber and vitamin C, they're perfect for snacking if you're busy or on the go.

Recent studies suggest that a compound found in apples may actually act as a natural cancer drug, even killing colon cancer cells more effectively than chemotherapy.

Choose apples that are firm and free of bruises. To keep them fresh at home, store them in a cool, dry place and away from other fruits like avocados, bananas, or citrus fruits.

Pear

Pears usually ripen right on the tree; you can tell if they're ripe by their smell. Choose the best ones, store them in the refrigerator, and use them within 5 days.

Just like with apples, lemon juice can help prevent pears from browning when cut open.

This fruit contains a complex carbohydrate called pectin, which acts as a detoxifier, regulates the digestive tract, and stimulates the immune system. Pears stimulate digestion, lower cholesterol, and regulate blood sugar levels.

Pears contain protein, lipids, cellulose, calcium, phosphorus, iron, carotenoids, vitamins B1, B2, and C, glucose, and acetic acid, all of which have certain cancer-preventing effects.

Because pears are considered "cold" in nature, people with cold stomach pain or diarrhea should avoid them.

Grape

Grapes are generally at their best in the fall. They are a rich source of vitamin K, vitamin C, antioxidants, and resveratrol, an anti-inflammatory compound that keeps your skin looking youthful.

Grapes contain a special flavonoid called resveratrol (a phytochemical) with strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Grapes are known to be one of the best fruits for fighting cancer. They not only prevent cancer cell damage but also reduce the growth of cancer cells in the colon, stomach, lymphatic system, liver, and breast.

Store grapes in the refrigerator for a maximum of one week, and remember to wash them thoroughly before eating.

Pink

This fruit is very popular in some Asian countries. It contains antioxidants – catechins and polyphenols – which have excellent anti-inflammatory properties.

Vitamin A, shibuol, betulinic acid, and many other antioxidants in persimmons are considered killers against free radicals – agents that damage cells and lead to cancer.

The abundant amount of vitamin C in this fruit helps prevent illnesses such as the flu, colds, and lung infections like asthma. This, in turn, strengthens the body's immune system.

However, persimmons are not good for people with diabetes and should not be eaten if you frequently suffer from constipation.
