On October 5, 2009, a Yemeni Air Force Su-22 Fitter-C crashed while conducting airstrikes against Houthi rebels in the north of the country. The Yemeni government claimed the crash was due to technical problems, while the rebels claimed the plane was shot down.
On July 20, 2011,A Yemeni Air Force Su-22UM crashed when an engine failed during takeoff, causing the plane to skid off the runway and burst into flames. The two pilots on board survived but were seriously injured.
On February 19, 2013, A Yemeni Air Force Su-22M-4 crashed into a building near “Change Square” in the capital Sanaa. At least 12 people, including the pilot, were killed and many others were injured in the incident. According to the Yemen Times, the plane was on a training mission when the accident occurred.
On November 11, 2017,An Su-22 of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) crashed near the city of Sarvestan, located in the south of the country. According to the Iranian Air Force Public Relations Department, the plane crashed during a training flight, killing the pilot. However, the Department did not reveal more about the cause of the incident. According to Tasnim News Agency, technical problems could be the main reason for the Su-22 crash.
