Five individuals involved in online fraud, who swindled over 1 billion VND, have been apprehended.
(Baonghean.vn) - The group of perpetrators called victims to inform them they had won valuable assets and cash, and that they had to pay a deposit to "receive the prize." In 2022, this group committed fraud, appropriating assets from many victims totaling over 1 billion VND.
On February 23, 2023, the Thanh Chuong District Police (Nghe An province) announced that they had successfully investigated and dismantled a criminal ring.fraud and embezzlement through social mediaFive individuals were taken into criminal custody.
Earlier, in late 2022, after receiving reports from several victims and monitoring the area, the Thanh Chuong District Police discovered a group of individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior related to online fraud and property appropriation.

Recognizing this as a group of fraudsters using sophisticated high-tech methods to embezzle large sums of money from victims, the Thanh Chuong District Police established a special task force to combat them.
Through coordinated investigative measures, the Thanh Chuong District Police's special task force discovered a group of suspects including: Nguyen Hoang Long (born 1994), Duong Viet Lam (born 1994), Le Van Toan (born 1995), Nguyen Van Anh (born 1994), and Hoang Anh Tuan (born 1991), all residing in Ky Anh District, Ha Tinh Province, exhibiting suspicious behavior indicative of online fraud and property appropriation targeting victims.
During the investigation and verification process, the special task force encountered many difficulties because the group of suspects used many sophisticated and secretive methods and tactics. The suspects not only committed crimes in Nghe An province but also in many areas of Ha Tinh province, Hanoi city, etc.

After gathering sufficient documents and evidence, the Thanh Chuong District Police's special task force successfully apprehended the group of suspects. Initial investigations revealed that, exploiting the gullibility of victims, the group contacted them by phone, informing them they had won valuable prizes and cash. Victims were required to pay a deposit to claim their prize. Using this method, in 2022, the group defrauded numerous victims, appropriating over 1 billion VND in total.
Currently, the case is being further investigated and clarified by the Thanh Chuong District Police.
