5 students swept away by waves while attending a birthday party at sea
After attending a martial arts teacher's birthday party, a group of 5 students went swimming in Hai Binh beach (Loc Binh commune, Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue) when they were suddenly caught in a big wave, swept away, causing 1 student to die and 1 student to be missing.
Mr. Phan The Phung - Chairman of Loc Binh Commune People's Committee said that as of 11:00 a.m. on August 27, local authorities and people were still trying to search for a student missing at sea.

The incident occurred at the beach area bordering Hai Binh village (Loc Binh commune) and Vinh Hien commune beach (Phu Loc district).
According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Loc Binh commune, at around 4:00 p.m. on August 26, a group of 8 students from Vinh Loc High School and Vinh Hung Middle School (Phu Loc district) went to the above beach area to attend a martial arts teacher's birthday.
After a while of attending a birthday party, a group of students went swimming in the sea when suddenly a big wave hit them. As a result, 5 students were swept away by the waves.
Upon discovering the incident, the authorities of Loc Binh commune and local people immediately launched a rescue operation.
After struggling with the waves for a while, the rescue team was able to save 3 students and bring them to shore. The remaining 2 students were missing, including Nguyen Van Nhat (grade 9, Vinh Hung Secondary School) and Nguyen Duc Hoang My (grade 10, Vinh Loc High School).
"By the evening of the same day, the rescue team found Nguyen Van Nhat at the beach where the incident occurred but he was dead," said Mr. Phung.
As of 11:00 a.m. on August 27, the functional forces of Loc Binh commune, Phu Loc district authorities and local people were still making efforts to rescue and search for My's whereabouts.
