Five students were swept away by waves while celebrating a birthday at sea.
After attending their martial arts teacher's birthday party, a group of five students went swimming in the sea off Hai Binh (Loc Binh commune, Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue province) when they were suddenly caught in large waves, which swept them away. One student died, and another is still missing.
According to Mr. Phan Thế Phúng, Chairman of the People's Committee of Lộc Bình commune, as of 11:00 AM on August 27th, local authorities and residents are still making efforts to search for a student who went missing at sea.

The incident occurred in the beach area bordering Hai Binh village (Loc Binh commune) and Vinh Hien commune beach (Phu Loc district).
According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Loc Binh commune, at around 4 PM on August 26th, a group of 8 students from Vinh Loc High School and Vinh Hung Junior High School (Phu Loc district) went to the beach area to attend the birthday party of a martial arts teacher.
After attending a birthday party, the group of students went swimming in the sea when they were suddenly caught in large waves. As a result, five students were swept away by the waves.
Upon discovering the incident, the authorities of Loc Binh commune and local residents immediately launched a rescue operation.
After struggling with the waves for some time, rescue forces managed to save 3 students and bring them ashore. The remaining 2 students, Nguyen Van Nhat (a 9th-grade student at Vinh Hung Secondary School) and Nguyen Duc Hoang My (a 10th-grade student at Vinh Loc High School), are still missing.
"By evening of the same day, rescue forces found Nguyen Van Nhat at the beach area where the incident occurred, but he had already died," Mr. Phung said.
As of 11:00 AM on August 27th, authorities in Loc Binh commune, the Phu Loc district government, and local residents were still making efforts to rescue and search for My.
