(Baonghean.vn) - Besides traffic signs, road markings are also a form of signaling; however, not all drivers remember, recognize, and understand their meaning... Below are 6 common types of road markings that drivers need to know to avoid breaking the law and ensure safety when participating in traffic.

1. Two parallel yellow lines

These are lane markings separating two lanes of traffic in opposite directions on highways, where the maximum speed limit is greater than 60 km/h. On city roads, similar lines are used but are white. The parallel solid lines mean that vehicles in both directions are prohibited from crossing, overtaking, or encroaching on other lanes.

2. A single solid yellow line

A solid yellow line is a dividing line separating two lanes of traffic on roads with two or three lanes and no median. Vehicles are not allowed to drive on or cross the line. A single, solid yellow line is used on sections of road where visibility for overtaking is poor and there is a risk of head-on collisions.

3. Yellow dashed line

It is a line separating two lanes of traffic moving in opposite directions on roads with two or more lanes and no median; vehicles are permitted to cross over and use the opposite lane on both sides.

4. White diamond-shaped line

This is a road marking indicating an upcoming pedestrian crossing: According to regulation 41 on road signage, this is mark 7.6: indicating an upcoming pedestrian crossing.

This is especially important for pedestrian crossings located in the middle of the road connecting two intersections, to warn drivers to yield to pedestrians crossing the road.

5. Cross-hatching at the intersection.

These white crisscross markings are not included in regulation 41 and therefore have no legal effect. However, in practice, these markings are purely visual, helping road users to distinguish lanes more clearly, as they are accompanied by an arrow indicating a right turn.

If a vehicle enters this lane but continues straight, it will be fined for "failing to comply with traffic signs and lane markings."

6. V-shaped fishbone pattern

According to regulation 41/2016, this is a type of lane marking used to divide traffic into two directions, for example, one direction going up the overpass and the other going under the overpass. Vehicles are not allowed to enter this area marked by the lines.
