Due to a dispute over rent payments, Le Hoang Vu (born 1965, residing in Can Tho City) brutally murdered his landlord and dismembered the victim's body with the help of his wife, Nguyen Thi Thanh Bach (born 1967, also residing in Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City). The victim was Phan Van Thanh (born 1973, residing in Hiep Binh Phuoc Ward, Thu Duc District, Ho Chi Minh City).
Accordingly, on the afternoon of March 28, 2011, Mr. Thanh went to the rented room of Mr. and Mrs. Vu to collect the monthly rent. Because they didn't have the money to pay, an argument broke out between Vu and Mr. Thanh. After being punched in the face, Vu grabbed a wooden stick from the charcoal stove and hit Mr. Thanh on the head. In pain, Mr. Thanh clutched his head and ran into the bedroom, shouting for help. Seeing this, Vu chased after him, repeatedly hitting him on the head until he was motionless.
The wife witnessed the entire incident but did not intervene; instead, she turned up the volume on her music player to drown out Thanh's cries for help. After killing the homeowner, Vu bought large plastic bags and dismembered the victim's body into many pieces before taking them to Binh Trieu Bridge and disposing of them in the Saigon River.

Accordingly, Ngo Van Tam (21 years old, residing in Tra Vinh), Tran Tu Dien (25 years old, residing in Bac Lieu), and Bui Van Liem (born in 1986, from Ben Tre) all worked as loaders at Con Co Feed Company (located in Bien Hoa Industrial Park, Dong Nai province).
During this time, Liem had homosexual relations with Tam several times and promised his "partner" 500 million VND. Around July 2012, Liem invited Dien to live with him, and using the same promise of large sums of money, Liem had homosexual relations with Dien several times. Because Liem repeatedly promised money but never delivered, Tam conspired with Dien to murder his homosexual "partner."
On December 24, 2012, the two men bought four knives. Tam and Dien each hid a 35cm long knife under the mattress in their rented room. Around 11 PM that same day, seeing that Liem was fast asleep, the two murderers took the knife hidden under the mattress and stabbed him once in the chest. Seeing the victim still struggling, Tam sat on his stomach, covering his mouth with one hand, while using the other hand to deeply cut his neck and stab him again in the chest, causing the victim to die on the spot.
Afterward, the two perpetrators dragged the body into the bathroom. Seeing 200,000 dong in Liem's pocket, Dien took it and, together with Tam, used a knife to cut open the victim's abdomen, legs, and arms to remove the two knee joints and the right elbow joint. After dismembering the body, they gathered the pieces, put them in a sack, and then went out to steal a motorbike to transport the body away for disposal.

On May 25, 2014, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Investigation Agency arrested Tran Nhat Duy (born in 1994) – the perpetrator of murder and dismemberment in a rented room in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City – to investigate his involvement in murder and robbery.
According to initial statements, Duy and Van Anh Tuan (born in 1984, the victim) had a homosexual relationship since Duy was an 11th-grade student in Tien Giang. In 2013, Duy was admitted to university, so Tuan moved to Ho Chi Minh City and rented a room. Later, due to jealousy over Duy's relationship with someone else, Tuan often made unpleasant remarks. Therefore, Duy conceived the idea of killing Tuan to end their relationship.
On May 15th and 16th, 2014, Duy mixed poison into Tuan's drink, but the victim did not die; he only vomited and his health deteriorated significantly. On May 19th, Duy continued to put poison into two capsules to poison the victim.
After Tuan's death, Duy used a knife and saw to dismember the victim's body. Duy told the landlord he was going on a long trip, but in reality, he put the body parts into a backpack and took them to My Loi Ferry Terminal (Tien Giang) and Lam Dong to dispose of them.
After killing the victim, Duy called his girlfriend to come to his rented room to help him clean up the crime scene, spray perfume to mask the smell… then together they took the victim's motorbike, phone, and cash and fled to Tien Giang to hide.
