600 victims accuse local land administration officials of defrauding them of over 35 billion VND.
Sixty-six victims have accused Nguyen Nhu Nhan, a land administration official in the commune, of "fraudulently appropriating property" worth over 35 billion VND.
On July 18th, the Quang Nam Provincial Police announced that 600 victims had accused Nguyen Nhu Nhan (33 years old), residing in Duy Trung commune, Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province, a land administration official in Duy Trung commune, of "fraudulent appropriation of property" amounting to over 35 billion VND.
According to the investigating agency, Nhân took advantage of his position to provide false information about his ability to process land use conversion and subdivision procedures, leading people to trust him and hand over money and land use right certificates in order to embezzle the funds.
Nhan had repeatedly received money from people for land registration procedures; received deposits for selling land managed by the commune People's Committee; and received money for converting land use from agricultural land and perennial crop land to residential land.
During a search of Nhân's workplace and residence, investigators seized 466 land use right certificates and related documents.
The total amount of money Nhân embezzled exceeded 35 billion VND.
The Quang Nam Provincial Police have also initiated legal proceedings against Nguyen Nhu Nhan to investigate his alleged abuse of power and authority while performing his duties, violations of land management regulations, and fraud involving the appropriation of property.
