Every year, the world of football says goodbye to a series of famous players. In 2016, Steven Gerrard's retirement left many regrets.

1. Steven Gerrard:The 36-year-old retired after the Los Angeles Galaxy lost to Colorado Rapids in the MLS Cup semi-finals. He returned to Liverpool to prepare for a youth coaching role. 2. Miroslav Klose:Klose decided to hang up his boots at the age of 38 in early November. He is a World Cup legend with 16 goals in 4 appearances, holding the tournament record. Klose is currently working for the German national team as a member of the coaching staff.

3. Nemanja Vidic:On January 29, the once-famous Manchester United midfielder announced the end of his football career. In the final days of his career, Vidic suffered from constant injuries and decided to terminate his contract with Inter Milan 11 days before retiring. While playing for MU, Vidic won the Premier League 5 times and the Champions League 1 time. He and Rio Ferdinand formed the toughest central defender pair in Premier League history.

4. Luca Toni:Luca Toni retired after the match between Hellas Verona and Juventus in the penultimate round of Serie A 2015/16. In 22 years of playing football, Toni scored 156 goals in 343 matches in Serie A. He traveled to many destinations, playing for 8 different teams in the top division of Italy. In the 2014/15 season, Luca Toni scored 22 goals to win the top scorer title, the last big mark in his career.

5. Diego Milito:On May 21, after scoring a penalty to help Racing beat Temperley 2-0 in the Argentine National Championship, striker Diego Milito officially retired at the age of 36. During his career, the Argentine player scored 254 goals in 607 matches. His greatest mark was the brilliant 2010 with Inter Milan when he won a collective treble; in addition, Milito won a series of individual titles: Serie A best player 2009/10, UEFA best player of the year and best player of the Champions League final.

6. Daniel Agger:On June 9, the former Liverpool defender announced his retirement at a young age: 31. During his 12 years of playing, the player born in 1984 only played for two clubs, Brondby and Liverpool. Fans of both teams saw him as a symbol of loyalty.
