Born in 1997, Tran Thi Dieu Lien is a former English major student at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (HCMC). Born into a family with a father who was a sign maker and a mother who was a janitor at a university, Dieu Lien was completely self-reliant and self-taught while applying for a scholarship to the US.
During her high school years, Lien won many scholarships and had excellent scientific research achievements. Passionate about science, she often bought discarded and cheap scraps to explore and create. The extracurricular activity that Lien devoted the most effort to was teaching poor children.

The Vietnamese girl had to go through a very strict selection process from the application round to the most stressful exam with 5 subjects in French (Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, French). Overcoming many obstacles, Pham Vu Hoang Ha was the only candidate to pass the direct interview round and finally, she won the prestigious ASPF scholarship in 2016.
The ASPF scholarship will grant a talented Vietnamese female student 138,000 euros/year for 3 years of university (equivalent to 10.2 billion VND) to pursue Biotechnology in the hexagonal country.
