8 Worst Places to Hide Money in the House
Many people hide money under their mattress because they think that if they sleep there every day, their money will always be safe.
According to Bright Side, the following places are not ideal for keeping money in the house:
In the garden

Burying money in the garden is definitely a bad idea for three simple reasons:
- Neighbors can see you hiding money this way.
- If your pet likes to dig holes in the garden, it can easily find where the money is hidden.
- Burying money underground, even in a container, can easily cause it to be crushed or damaged if there is prolonged heavy rain.
Under the mattress

This is a classic method and is used by many people because they think that if they sleep on it every day, their money will always be safe. But this is actually not a good idea. When you are away from home, the first place thieves often check for money is under the mattress.
In shopping bags

Even if a thief isn't looking for your shopping bags, they may need them to store stolen items. And you don't want to surprise a thief with a gift, right?
In old handbags and wallets

Don't put your emergency money in these items. Even if you don't need them anymore, that doesn't mean they're a good place to keep your money.
In the laundry basket

You might think it’s a good idea to keep money in dirty laundry baskets—something no one wants to touch. But thieves often use these items to transport stolen goods, so sometimes a dirty laundry basket is just what they need.
Behind a picture or photo frame

This is another classic. Thieves have seen the movies just like the rest of us and will not hesitate to check such hiding places, even smashing your cherished picture frames.
In the safe but without a lock

No matter how big or small your safe is, it will be useless if a thief can carry it away or open it. A good idea is to attach the safe to a wall, floor, or heavy piece of furniture.
In drawers, cabinets

Drawers and cabinets are not safe places to keep money. Burglars often look in these places first when breaking into a home.
If you find yourself needing a place to hide your money, try these suggestions:
- Roll up money in a plastic bag and put it under the kitchen cabinet or in the bottom drawer of the child's toy box (where the child won't often touch it).
- Put your money in a sealed, waterproof container on the lowest shelf of your refrigerator or freezer. Make sure it doesn't look like ice cream or some other tasty treat that a thief might want to try.
- Hide money in the middle of your sewing supplies. Thieves will almost never look for your money in these places.
- In a pair of shoes, old clothes or an old computer that no longer works. Make sure these items look like scrap that you haven't had time to get rid of.
