8 tourism products for National Tourism Year 2017

Eight typical tourism products for eight provinces in the extended Northwest region were introduced at a press conference introducing Northwest tourism and preparations for the 2017 National Tourism Year.

Within the framework of the Vietnam International Tourism Fair VITM Hanoi 2016, on the afternoon of April 14, representatives of the Northwestern provinces introduced cultural, sports, tourism programs, events and unique tourism products that will be held during the National Tourism Year 2017.

Mr. Ha Van Thang, Director of the Department of Culture - Sports - Tourism of Lao Cai province, said that the majestic beauty of the Northwest mountains and forests, the unique diversity of culture and the heroic and sacred history give the Northwest rich, diverse and attractive natural and human tourism resources, along with the trading position through the Vietnam - China and Vietnam - Laos border gates, becoming advantages and good conditions for investment in tourism development.

In recent years, the provinces of the Northwest region have always paid attention to creating an open investment environment, creating favorable conditions and encouraging economic sectors to participate in tourism investment, healthy competition and equality before the law. Tourism infrastructure has been built and developed such as the Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway, National Highway 6, the Hanoi - Lao Cai railway connecting Kunming - Ha Khau... In the coming time, many investment projects will be implemented such as: Lao Cai airport project, Lai Chau airport, the highway connecting Lai Chau and Sa Pa... creating the necessary conditions to develop tourism in the region with other regions of the country and neighboring countries.

Responding to the press, Ms. Hoang Thi Hanh, Deputy Head of the Northwest Steering Committee, said that the region has not yet fully exploited its inherent potential.

According to statistics from the General Department of Tourism, in 2015, the entire Northwest region welcomed 1.7 million international visitors and 8.9 million domestic visitors, but the quality of services in the region is still not high. Therefore, Ms. Hanh emphasized that along with attracting visitors, it is necessary to change synchronously from awareness to action and activities to promote tourism development in the region. In addition to attracting more domestic visitors, Ms. Hanh also said that the goal is to target the international market, mainly Russian and Japanese tourists.

Mr. Ha Van Thang also said that the Northwest plans to invest in and exploit 8 attractive tourism products, bearing the outstanding characteristics of 8 provinces in the region to serve the National Tourism Year 2017.

1. Northwest Community Tourism

Develop and put into operation typical community tourism products, characteristic of ethnic groups living in the area to introduce the beauty of people, culture and lifestyle of the ethnic communities in the Northwest.

2. Travel "Journey to discover the heritage road of terraced fields - Northwest"

Develop tour programs to famous terraced fields of the Northwest combined with agricultural festivals and cultural activities associated with terraced fields in localities to introduce the unique beauty of the people and landscapes of the Northwest. Opening event in Mu Cang Chai (Yen Bai province) including activities, beautiful photo exhibitions on terraced fields of the 3 provinces of Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai. Time: March-April and August-October 2017.

3. “Highland Market” Tourism

Connecting the highland markets of the provinces in the region into typical tourism products, combining with introducing the unique culture of ethnic minorities living in the region. Building a tourism route to explore and experience the Northwest market according to the typical market highlights from Sa Pa - Bac Ha - Xin Man - Dong Van Stone Plateau. Time: All year 2017.

4. Spiritual tourism along the Red River

Building a spiritual tourism tour through three provinces along the Red River: Phu Tho - Yen Bai - Lao Cai connecting spiritual tourism spots: Doi Co Temple, Mau Temple and Bao Ha Temple (Lao Cai Province); Dong Cuong Temple, Nhuoc Son Temple and Tuan Quan Temple (Yen Bai Province); Mau Au Co Temple, Tam Giang Temple, Du Yen Temple (Phu Tho Province). Time: In 2017.

5. Spiritual tourism along the Da River

Building a spiritual tour through the provinces along the Da River: Hoa Binh - Son La - Dien Bien - Lai Chau. Time: In 2017.

6. "Northwest Flowers" Tourism

Tour program: Admiring rhododendron flowers in the blooming season (Quarter I, II/2017 at Hoang Lien National Park (Sa Pa - Lao Cai); Y Ty old forest (Bat Xat - Lao Cai); Moc Chau - Son La.

Buckwheat flower themed tourism program in October 2017: Opening in Ha Giang province; welcoming visitors to Dong Van Stone Plateau (Ha Giang province) connecting with Bac Ha and Si Ma Cai districts (Lao Cai).

7. Tour program "Legendary Footprints" - Discover the marching routes in the historic Dien Bien Phu campaign

Build a historical tour along the marching routes of soldiers in the Dien Bien Phu campaign, combined with an introduction to the places, people and culture along the route and the system of relics in Dien Bien province. End with the Dien Bien Phu Victory Celebration Ceremony. Time: All year, with the highlight being the 63rd anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 2017).

8. “Conquer the peak” tourism

Build tourist routes for tourists who want to explore and conquer the peaks of Vietnam (Fansipan - Lao Cai (3,143 m), Phu Ta Leng - Lai Chau (3,040 m), Ky Quan San (Bach Moc Luong Tu), Lao Cai - Lai Chau (3,040 m), Chieu Lau Thi - Ha Giang (2,412 m), combined with experiencing the culture of the ethnic groups in the Northwest.
