Historic floods caused by storm No. 11 have left Thai Nguyen, Hanoi and many northern provinces submerged in water. In the midst of the flood, 9 Thai Nguyen police officers were injured during rescue operations.
On October 9, Colonel Ha Trong Trung - Deputy Director of Thai Nguyen Provincial Police visited and encouraged officers and soldiers injured while assisting people in evacuating during the historic flood.
Captain Duong Quang Huy, a police officer of Linh Son ward, was seriously injured in both legs when he collided with the propeller of a motorboat while the rescue team was moving in the strong current.
Sergeant Nguyen Van Tien, an officer of the Mobile Police Department, also had his leg cut by a piece of glass while helping an old woman in a deeply flooded area.
Both soldiers and seven others injured were taken to the Thai Nguyen Provincial Police Hospital for treatment. Colonel Trung praised the officers’ bravery and devotion to the people, and wished them a speedy recovery so they could return to duty soon.
Pain in the heart of the flood: The principal died when water flooded her house.
Previously, on the morning of October 8, teacher Ly Thi Thanh Xuan, Principal of Cam Gia Secondary School (Thai Nguyen City) died from drowning when her house was flooded.
Ms. Xuan was a dedicated person, loved by students and parents. More tragically, her daughter and son-in-law were both police officers, but at the time of the incident they were on flood control duty and could not return home. Because the water level is still high, Ms. Xuan’s funeral cannot be held at this time.
Thai Nguyen Provincial Police have directed relevant units to support the family, fully implement policies and help with her funeral.
