Aguero scores a hat-trick, Man City overtake Man Utd.

Pep Guardiola's team asserted their dominance with a resounding 6-0 victory away at Watford in the fifth round of the English Premier League.

Sergio Aguero opened the scoring with a header from Kevin De Bruyne's free kick midway through the first half. Just four minutes later, the Argentinian striker doubled the lead with a close-range tap-in into an empty net. Before the end of the first half, Gabriel Jesus added his name to the scoresheet. This time, Aguero provided the assist.

With three goals scored quickly in just 10 minutes in the first half, Man City could afford to relax in the second half. Nicolas Otamendi scored the fourth goal from a header. Then, 10 minutes before the end of the match, Aguero completed his hat-trick with a solo run and a delicate finish. Raheem Sterling also marked his return to the team after his suspension with the winning penalty, having been fouled by Christian Kabasele inside the box.

Conversely, Watford created a good game for almost the first 30 minutes. But a momentary lapse in concentration allowed their opponents to score from a set piece. The home team then lost their morale, allowing Man City to completely dominate the match.

Following their 5-0 victory over Liverpool in the previous round, Man City once again showcased the strength of their attack in this match. Their attacks down the flanks always held the potential for surprises, thanks to the mobility of their forwards and the seamless transitions between the wings by Benjamin Mendy and Kyle Walker.

The assist for Aguero's opening goal further demonstrated De Bruyne's passing ability and his influence on Guardiola's tactical approach. Since his debut for Man City, De Bruyne has provided 24 assists, the most in the Premier League during that period.

Bruyne plays a crucial role in Manchester City's current style of play.

This victory would put Guardiola's team at the top of the table with 13 points, three points ahead of Man Utd. The "Red Devils" would close this gap if they beat Everton on the evening of September 17th. However, with six goals scored against Watford and none conceded, Man City's goal difference has increased to +14 compared to Man Utd's +10. Therefore, Jose Mourinho's team must beat Everton by four goals to catch up with their rivals.

The three goals scored in this match helped Aguero raise his total number of goals in the Premier League this season to five, putting him at the top of the Golden Boot race. The 29-year-old striker is gradually regaining the trust of his manager Guardiola after a season plagued by injuries and a period where he lost his place in the team.
