Here, President Sisi officiated at the flag-raising ceremony for the Egyptian Armed Forces. This new military base is named after the late President Mohamed Naguib, who led the 1952 revolution that ended the monarchy in Egypt. It is the largest base in the Middle East and Africa region.

Samir Ghatas, chairman of the Middle East Strategic and Security Research Forum, said Egypt is facing security threats and therefore needs to diversify its military resources and improve its readiness.

Mr. Ghatas pointed out that there are many challenges on the borders between Egypt and Libya and Sudan. In addition, ensuring the security of the Bab al-Mandab Strait, threatened by tensions in Yemen, is crucial for the security of both the old and new Suez Canal. Furthermore, there is the need to secure newly discovered gas fields in the Mediterranean.

This strategist emphasized that Egypt needs to be prepared to participate in any war to support "Gulf allies, who form Egypt's line of defense."
