According to the aforementioned source on November 29th, it is highly likely that for the first time in eight years, a Wall Street veteran will hold a high-ranking economic position in the new US cabinet.

Mnuchin, who served as chief financial officer in Trump's campaign, could be named as the nominee on the morning of November 30 (US time), according to a source close to the Republican party.

Mnuchin was chosen from among many other talented candidates, including JPMorgan Chase chairman Jamie Dimon and Republican Congressman Jeb Hensarling, chairman of the powerful House Finance Committee.

Mnuchin is the first Wall Street veteran to head the Treasury Department since his predecessor, Henry Paulson, the former Goldman Sachs CEO who served under President George W. Bush and steered the Treasury through the turbulent early stages of the 2008-2009 financial crisis.

The New York Times first reported Mnuchin's appointment. Although not widely known, Mnuchin is considered a successful private equity investor and hedge fund manager, having worked at Goldman Sachs for 17 years before leaving in 2002 to build and develop Dune Capital Management.

With his company Dune, Mnuchin invested in numerous films for Century Fox and Warner Bros., including blockbusters such as "Avatar," "Mad Max: Fury Road," and "Suicide Squad."
