Second generation Airpods coming soon?

A reputable source said that Apple is quietly preparing to launch the second generation of Airpods wireless headphones in the second half of next year.

The demand for Christmas and New Year gifts has caused Airpods to be out of stock. According to news reports around the world in the past few days, those who are late to get their hands on Apple's wireless headphones will not have the chance to get their hands on them until 2018.

According to renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, Apple is not only trying to meet the surge in orders during the 2017 holiday season, but the company is also actively developing its successor - the second generation of Airpods.

Kuo predicts that AirPods shipments will increase 100% year-over-year in 2018 to 26-28 million units. Orders for the second-generation AirPods could also increase, providing a boost to Unitech and Compeq.

One change inside Apple's next-generation wireless headphones is the addition of a "smaller quartz component," the KGI analyst added. However, he did not reveal any other details about the new external features or expected upgrades in the product.

According to Mr. Kuo, the new AirPods headphones are still assembled by Taiwanese manufacturer Inventec. The components and parts of this product are provided by other partners of Apple in Taiwan such as Unitech, Compeq, TXC and HLJ.

Apple is rumored to be releasing a new inductive charging case for AirPods that will allow the wireless earbuds to be charged using a new AirPower charging pad, which is expected to launch sometime in 2018. The US tech giant first introduced the AirPower wireless charging pad at the iPhone X launch event in September. The company claims that AirPower can simultaneously charge an Apple Watch Series 3, iPhone X or iPhone 8, and AirPods placed inside the new charging case.
