Ajax Amsterdam - 'holding the gold and letting it fall'?
Coach Francesco Farioli and his team are at risk of having their 2024/2025 Eredivisie championship snatched away by PSV Eindhoven.
At the end of round 29, Ajax Amsterdam was 9 points ahead of PSV Eindhoven. With only 5 rounds left until the 2024/2025 Eredivisie officially ends, coach Francesco Farioli and his team are almost certain to hold the championship trophy in their hands.
Unfortunately, Ajax Amsterdam stumbled at the most important stage of the season. The most successful team in Dutch football stumbled against Utrecht (0-4), Sparta Rotterdam (1-1), NEC Nijmegen (0-3) and Groningen (2-2).

Thus, after only 4 rounds (from round 30 to round 33), Ajax Amsterdam was surpassed by PSV Eindhoven with 1 more point. Accordingly, the right to decide the championship race is no longer in the hands of coach Francesco Farioli and his team.
In the final round, while Ajax Amsterdam welcomes Twente, PSV Eindhoven will visit Sparta Rotterdam. To win the championship, Ajax Amsterdam must satisfy two conditions: They win, and PSV Eindhoven must draw or lose.
It is not too early to say that PSV Eindhoven's chances of losing points to Sparta Rotterdam are very unlikely. Coach Peter Bosz's team is simply too strong, while Sparta Rotterdam is underpowered and has no fighting spirit.
If rival PSV Eindhoven steals the championship, or more accurately, if PSV Eindhoven successfully defends the title, coach Francesco Farioli and his team will have to endure the wrath of home fans, for "holding the gold and letting it fall".
In case of losing the championship to PSV Eindhoven, Ajax Amsterdam will have to go through the third consecutive season without a trophy in the most prestigious arena of Dutch football. It is bitter for Ajax Amsterdam to have to "hide" in the shadow of PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord.
Let's wait and see, will the throne of Eredivisie 2024/2025 belong to PSV Eindhoven or Ajax Amsterdam?/.
