According to residents of My Ly commune, Ky Son district: Recently, the accumulation of garbage along a long stretch of the Nam Non River has caused serious environmental pollution and affected waterway traffic. Immediately, a reporter from Nghe An Newspaper set off, traveling over 250 km to document the situation. Photo: Tien Dong

Observations show that the garbage collection point is located right at the foot of the Nam Non bridge, at kilometer marker 350+384 on National Highway 16, stretching approximately 1.5 km downstream. It's easy to see that the green color of a long stretch of river has disappeared, replaced by the color of garbage. Photo: Tien Dong

From above, it's easy to see an entire stretch of river densely covered in trash, making it difficult to recognize it as a river anymore. Photo: Tien Dong

According to our investigation, this area is located in Hoa Ly village, My Ly commune, and is where the water level of the Ban Ve hydroelectric reservoir rises (also known as the tail end of the reservoir). Approaching the riverbank, the stench of decaying plants and animals is overwhelming. Photo: Tien Dong

All kinds of trash, from tree branches and animal carcasses to plastic waste, have been drifting into this section of the river. Local residents say this situation has been occurring for over a month. Besides the blockage of trash making river navigation difficult, the area is also plagued by flies and mosquitoes, resulting in serious environmental pollution. Residents are very worried about their health. Photo: Tien Dong

What's particularly concerning is the abundance of plastic waste in this area, including many pesticide and herbicide bottles with foreign labels, that have drifted ashore. These types of plastic waste pose a significant environmental hazard if left untreated. (Photo: Tien Dong)

Reportedly, Ban Ve Hydropower Company, in coordination with Nghe An Urban Environment and Construction Joint Stock Company, is preparing to collect and remove floating garbage from the Ban Ve Hydropower reservoir in My Ly commune (Ky Son district) and several other communes in Tuong Duong district. This is expected to be carried out in the near future. Photo: Tien Dong
