Sentence for the man who is both a shipper and a drug dealer
Tuan and Sy were from the same hometown and lived together. The couple took a bus to Hanoi to buy drugs to use and resell for profit. Tuan was arrested by the police while selling drugs to addicts at the bus station.
On November 12, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened the first instance trial of three defendants, including Tran Thi Chanh (born in 1969), residing in Thanh Liet ward, Hanoi city, and Dau Van Tuan (born in 1986), Nguyen Thanh Sy (born in 1989), both residing in Than Linh commune (Nghe An) for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking".
Dau Van Tuan and Nguyen Thanh Sy rented a room together in Nghi Kim commune (old), now Vinh Hung ward (Nghe An). Both were drug addicts, so they discussed buying heroin to use and sell for profit.

On December 30, 2024, Tuan called Tran Thi Chanh - a woman he knew before - to buy a stick of heroin.
After Tuan ordered the drugs, Chanh contacted a man named Viet (unknown background), asking to buy 1 heroin stick, 1 ounce of crystal meth and 6 packages of pink phien (priced at 83 million VND) to both use and sell for profit.
Chanh told Tuan the price of 1 heroin stick was 45 million VND. Hearing that, Tuan immediately transferred money in advance to the seller to order the "goods".
That afternoon, Sy and Tuan took a bus to Hanoi to meet Chanh to receive the drugs. Afterwards, they took a bus back to their rented room in Nghe An, divided the drugs into many packages and put them in plastic straws to sell.
The next day, Tuan brought 24 plastic straws containing drugs to the Bac Vinh bus station to sell and was discovered by the police. Expanding the investigation, the authorities arrested Sy and Chanh one by one. During the search of Chanh's residence, the police discovered more packages of drugs.
The investigation agency determined that in this case, Tran Thi Chanh must bear criminal responsibility for the act of buying and selling two types of drugs with a total weight of more than 182 grams. The two subjects Dau Van Tuan and Nguyen Thanh Sy must bear responsibility for the act of buying and selling more than 22 grams of heroin.
At the trial, the defendants all admitted to their crimes. The three defendants said they bought drugs to use and resell for profit because they were addicted.
The two defendants Tuan and Sy presented difficult circumstances, working as shippers so they wanted to earn extra money by trafficking drugs.
Considering that in this case, defendant Tran Thi Chanh bought a large quantity of drugs, the People's Court sentenced her to 20 years in prison, and defendant Dau Van Tuan to 12 years in prison.
Defendant Nguyen Thanh Sy committed the crime as an accomplice, and he himself is disabled, so the court sentenced him to 7 years in prison for the crime of illegal drug trafficking.
