Sentence for man who worked as a delivery driver and also trafficked drugs.
Tuan and Sy were from the same hometown and shared a rented room. The pair took a bus to Hanoi to buy drugs for personal use and to resell for profit. Tuan was arrested by the police while selling drugs to addicts near the bus station.
On November 12th, the People's Court of Nghe An province held a first-instance trial to hear the case against three defendants: Tran Thi Chanh (born in 1969), residing in Thanh Liet ward, Hanoi; and Dau Van Tuan (born in 1986) and Nguyen Thanh Sy (born in 1989), both residing in Than Linh commune (Nghe An province), for the crime of "Illegal trafficking of narcotics"
Dau Van Tuan and Nguyen Thanh Sy rented a room together in Nghi Kim commune (formerly), now Vinh Hung ward (Nghe An province). Both addicted to drugs, they discussed buying heroin for personal use and selling it for profit.

On December 30, 2024, Tuan called Tran Thi Chanh, a woman he knew previously, to ask to buy a block of heroin.
After Tuan placed the order for drugs, Chanh contacted a man named Viet (whose identity is unknown) to inquire about purchasing one block of heroin, 100 grams of methamphetamine, and six packets of ecstasy pills (for 83 million VND) to use and sell for profit.
Chanh told Tuan that one block of heroin cost 45 million dong. Hearing this, Tuan immediately transferred the money to the seller to place an order.
That afternoon, Sy and Tuan took a bus to Hanoi to meet Chanh to receive the drugs. Afterwards, they took a bus back to their rented room in Nghe An, where they divided the drugs into smaller packages and put them in plastic straws to sell.
The following day, Tuan took 24 plastic straws containing drugs to the Bac Vinh bus station area to sell them, but was discovered by the police. Expanding the investigation, authorities subsequently arrested Sy and Chanh. During a search of Chanh's residence, police discovered many more packages of drugs.
The investigating agency determined that in this case, Tran Thi Chanh is criminally liable for the act of buying and selling two types of drugs with a total weight of over 182 grams. Dau Van Tuan and Nguyen Thanh Sy are responsible for the act of buying and selling over 22 grams of heroin.
At the trial, all defendants admitted to the crimes. Three defendants testified that they bought drugs for personal use and resale to make a profit because they were addicted.
The two defendants, Tuan and Sy, presented their difficult circumstances, stating that as delivery drivers they wanted to earn extra money by trafficking drugs.
Considering that in this case defendant Tran Thi Chanh purchased a large quantity of drugs, the court sentenced her to 20 years in prison, while defendant Dau Van Tuan received a 12-year prison sentence.
Defendant Nguyen Thanh Sy committed the crime in an aiding and abetting role, and he himself is disabled; therefore, the court sentenced him to 7 years in prison for the crime of illegally trading narcotics.
